Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 08 March to 14 March 2026, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) The second instalment of The Kerala Story franchise opens with a scene of a young woman who had committed suicide by hanging and what was prominent in that scene was the girl’s head was tonsured. The 2015 story of Anuja is the real case behind Kerala Story 2’s opening scene.

2) A stand-up comedy show by comedian Nasir Akhtar, scheduled for 8 March at the Ministry of Comedy in Bengaluru’s Koramangala was cancelled following a formal complaint submitted to the police by Hindu organizations, alleging that the comedian had previously made remarks insulting the community’s religious sentiments.

3) The murder of youth Tarun Kumar Butolia in Delhi by a Muslim mob, after a water balloon thrown by an 11‑year‑old girl accidentally splashed some water on a Muslim woman, is yet another reminder of how deeply Indian Muslim society has been radicalised by hate‑mongering clerics and religious indoctrination. What should have been, at worst, a neighbourhood quarrel on Holi became a lynching, because a section of society has been taught that subjugating the “kafir” at every possible opportunity is not just permissible, but a religious duty.

4) An ancient Shiva temple near a graveyard in the Aravali Vihar police station area of Alwar, Rajasthan, has become the centre of outrage after its Shivling was found vandalised and a dead calf discovered nearby, triggering local protests and heightened tensions. The incident occurred near Bhakhreda, where the temple, located close to a cemetery, has long been a site of daily worship for local residents.

5) A shocking incident has emerged from Koppal district in Karnataka, where Venkatesh was allegedly assaulted by a group of Islamist youths after he attempted to help resolve a domestic dispute involving his Muslim friend Azir and friend’s wife Afiya. Venkatesh reportedly faced violence and humiliation despite stepping in only to mediate and bring peace between the couple.

6) A disturbing case has emerged from Karnataka’s Bagalkot district, where an Islamist man, Safiq, has been accused of deceiving a Hindu woman into marriage, forcing her to convert to Islam, and later fleeing with her cash and gold ornaments. Acting on the complaint filed by the victim, Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal has directed officials to register a case against the accused and initiate an investigation.

7) A controversy has emerged at the Pune District Education Board’s New English School in Nhavi village, Pune, after allegations surfaced that students wearing tilaks on their foreheads were prevented from attending classes. The incident has drawn the attention of several Hindu organizations, which have demanded clarification from the school administration.

8) Monalisa Bhosle’s rush to Kerala to marry Farman Khan reeks of a textbook grooming operation masked as romance, exploiting a vulnerable young Hindu girl’s viral fame for a demographic agenda that demands urgent national scrutiny. At just 18, freshly catapulted to social media stardom from the Kumbh Mela, she was swiftly reeled in by a 25-year-old Muslim actor from Maharashtra—allegedly through social media and a film shoot—culminating in a hasty temple wedding under heavy police watch amid family pleas.

9) A 22-year-old Hindu woman from a village under Bakhira police station in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Sant Kabir Nagar, allegedly drugged her entire family with sleeping pills, stole cash and jewelry worth around one lakh rupees, and eloped with her Muslim ‘lover’. The incident, which unfolded recently, has been labeled as a love jihad (grooming for religious conversion) case by the family, who filed a complaint accusing the lovers of deception.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) A hand-bomb attack at a temple in Cumilla city left at least three people injured, including the temple priest Keshab Chakraborty. The incident has raised serious concerns about security and communal harmony in the area. The attack occurred at the Kaligachhtala temple in the Thakurpara area while devotees were performing a Shani Puja, according to local police. Witnesses said three unidentified individuals entered the temple premises and threw a hand bomb toward the worship area.

2) Although there were strong expectations that the safety of minority communities would be ensured after the new elected government in Bangladesh assumed office, the situation in reality is becoming increasingly alarming. During the continuation of the Yunus administration, within just 20 days of the new government led by Tarique Rahman, seven members of minority communities have been killed. The latest incident occurred on Sunday (March 8), when a Hindu teenage auto-rickshaw driver named Shanta Saha (16) was killed by robbers in Feni.

3) A shocking incident of violence has been reported from the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, where a Hindu man was allegedly murdered in broad daylight after refusing to pay an extortion demand reportedly framed as a “jizya” tax. The victim, identified as Ganesh Pal, was attacked on Friday (March 7, 2026) in the Pollankata area of Ward No. 5 under Cox’s Bazar Municipality. According to local sources, a group of Islamist extremists had been demanding money from him. When Ganesh Pal reportedly failed to pay the demanded amount, the assailants allegedly attacked him with knives and stabbed him multiple times.

4) A major theft at the central temple complex locally known as “Mayer Bari” in Satkhira town has triggered anger and anxiety among the local Hindu community after thieves broke into multiple shrines and stole gold ornaments from deities along with cash from donation boxes.

World

1) Pictures of Preschool Holi Event at Farragut has exposed the Christian Mentality in the USA. A social media post by an American nationalist reacting to a Holi celebration at a preschool in the United States has triggered a heated debate online.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.
