Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 05 October to 11 October 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) In an explosive and wide-ranging exclusive interview with Asianet Suvarna News, Sujatha Bhat, a central figure in the controversial Dharmasthala case, has come forward to claim she was used as a “pawn” by a political gang, asserting she has no connection to the ‘Burude’ gang and was misled into making false allegations.

2) In a brazen attempt to provoke communal tensions, Islamist miscreants desecrated Shri Ram Park on Murthal Road by scrawling offensive slogans like ‘I Love Mohammed’ and ‘Love Jihad’ on swings and benches. The incident, discovered early morning by the park gardener Narendra, immediately drew attention from locals, who were outraged at this assault on Hindu sentiments.

3) In a deeply distressing case that has once again brought the issue of Love Jihad to the forefront, a young Hindu nursing student from Aligarh has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. The girl, an 18-year-old B.Sc. nursing student undergoing an internship at a hospital on Khair Road, was allegedly lured and abducted by an Islamist man named Mohammad Abdul, who worked alongside her.

4) Jalandhar saw unrest after a protest linked to the ongoing “I love Mohammad” poster row turned into a clash between Muslim demonstrators and BJP workers. The incident has now become part of a wider controversy spreading across several states.

5) Vadodara police arrested Nilesh Nanji Jitiya, a resident of Khodiyarnagar, posted a video demeaning Hindu deities. When people who came to know about the video, they confronted him and asked him to remove it. But he abused and threatened to kill them.

6) A night of devotion and celebration turned chaotic in Cuttack as violent clashes broke out during a Durga Puja Murti immersion procession, leaving dozens injured — including a senior police officer. The violence erupted near Haathi Pokhari and Dargha Bazaar, when local Islamists allegedly objected to the loud music and chanting coming from an immersion procession organized by the Jhanjirmangala Bhagabat Sahi Puja Committee. What began as an argument quickly spiraled into a full-blown riot, with stone-pelting, bottle-throwing, and vandalism reported from multiple locations.

7) A major police report from the Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District, has unearthed a network of impostors posing as Human Rights Commission officers to interfere in the Dharmasthala temple case. The detailed inquiry, sent to the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, exposes individuals, including John Simon of Bengaluru and Madan Bugudi of Hubballi, who misused the name of the Human Rights Commission to intimidate officials and spread false narratives around the revered Dharmasthala shrine.

8) In Vikasnagar, Dehradun, a man named Aqib allegedly attempted to kidnap a minor Hindu girl after forcibly applying vermilion (sindoor) to her forehead. When the girl raised an alarm, nearby residents rushed to the spot, overpowered the accused, and handed him over to the police after thrashing him. The police have registered a case against Aqib under the POCSO Act and taken him into custody.

9) A shocking incident of land jihad has come to light from Saligrama town in the Mysuru district, where a portion of a government school building was allegedly demolished by Islamists using a JCB and tractor to create a road. Locals have raised serious concerns that the demolished section was part of a school campus and claim that around five acres of the institution’s land are being encroached upon. They have alleged that the area is being converted for private use, including the construction of sheds and parking spaces, without obtaining any official approval.

10) Gaurakshak Ganesh Shelke, a prominent Hindu activist against illegal cattle slaughter and cow smuggling, was viciously attacked by a group of radical Islamists in Chikalthana, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, shockingly, in broad daylight and despite police protection.

11) A major incident in Gorakhpur has sparked debate and concern across the region over the growing issues related to the safety of Hindu girls and interfaith relations. In the Sahjanwa area at Naushad Chauraha, local residents caught and beat a man, identified as Mansoor Ali from Bihar, who was attempting to take a Hindu woman—who had been made to wear a burqa—away with him.

12) A major controversy has erupted in Karnataka after verses from the Quran were recited at an official state government event in Hubballi, triggering outrage among citizens and opposition leaders who allege blatant misuse of public platforms for religious appeasement. The incident, which took place during a foundation stone-laying ceremony for ₹10 crore worth of civic development works under the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, has reignited debate on the Congress government’s growing pattern of selective secularism.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) In a chilling incident that has reignited concerns over minority persecution, Narayan Pal (40), son of Nripendra Pal from Rautpara in Mohanganj Municipality, was brutally murdered late Monday night in Netrokona’s Mohanganj area, just 150 yards away from the local police station.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
