Bengal: Police beats up Shiv Bhakts outside Bhootnath Mandir in Kolkata

Shiv Bhakts gathered at Kolkata’s iconic Bhootnath Mandir were brutally thrashed by the police on Monday. The Bhootnath Mandir, located in the Beniatola area of Kolkata, has remained closed citing Covid restrictions even though all major temples in the state have been opened for devotees.

Shravan is an auspicious month for Bhagwan Shiva and hence holds great significance for Shiv Bhakts (devotees of Bhagwan Shiva). Every Monday, devotees from far and wide gather at the Bhootnath Mandir and since it is closed, they offer prayers outside the temple gates.

However, this Monday when the devotees gathered as usually they were beaten by police personnel and also two men in civilian clothing. A video shared by the Bengal BJP unit, which has since gone viral, shows the two men in civilian clothing assaulting a saffron-clad Shiv Bhakt.

Bengal BJP tweet reads “In front of the Bhootnath temple, the devotees of Shiva were brutally beaten by the Kolkata police. Is this what the devotees of Shiva deserve? Mamata Banerjee’s reign in Bengal serves as a microcosm of the Taliban rule! Shame!”

Bengal BJP State Vice-President Ritesh Tiwari tweeted “Shocking and barbaric! The Kolkata Police is mercilessly beating the Shiva Devotees in front of Kolkata’s Bhootnath Temple and it is really a painful sight to watch. Is this what these innocent devotees deserve? Bengal saw another form of Taliban rule under Mamata”.

Hindus in Bengal have been facing unprecedented violence ever since Mamata Banerjee-led TMC was elected back to power. The recent assault is one in a series of assaults unleashed by the ruling regime and the police that act at their bidding.

  1. It’s high time that all Hindus should understand that we will loose Bharath if we dont protect it. There is no use in just educating and making money for our children. We need to also provide them a safe country to practice our religion and live peacefully. Or else we willl not have any body to do our after death rituals for our punya. There is no use in just praying or proudly say that we are Hindu. We need to respond to austrocities against us by registering complain and defending our religion more publically. Also we need to publically practice our religion more and more.
