Andhra Pradesh: Hindus threatened to embrace Christianity, take 5K per month else face false charges under SC/ST Act

In Andhra Pradesh, conversion to Christianity has shot through the roof since the Christian Congressman YSR became CM in 2004 with blessings of Sonia Gandhi, and now that same work has been accelerated by YSR’s son and current Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy. After converting large swathes of the Hindu SC/ST population in the state through fraud, allurement and coercion, the missionary mafia is now targeting other Hindu communities.

Legal rights body LRPF (Legal Rights Protection Forum) has reported that the Pastors of “Believers Eastern Church” of Pittalavanpalem in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh are forcing villagers of the area to convert to Christianity and take a payment of Rs. 5000 per month else they will be targeted with cases under the stringent SC/ST Act.

Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, popularly known as SC/ST Act,  was enacted to prohibit discrimination, prevent atrocities and hate crimes against scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. However, after a number of cases of misuse of this Act were reported from different parts of the country, Supreme Court in March 2018 banned immediate arrest of a person accused under the Act to protect innocents from arbitrary arrest. After this caused an uproar, the central Government passed an amendment  to bypass the Supreme Court ruling and to reinstate the stringent provisions such as provision for immediate arrest, no anticipatory bail etc.

Kathir News reports that the incident occurred in Kothapallam village where the villagers had objected to illegal construction of a Church. In response, Pastor Anand Paul of the Believers’ Eastern Church abused them and threatened to file false cases under SC/ST Act against them. Villagers lodged a police complaint, and the Pastor filed counter charges under the Act. The villagers have written to authorities asking how the Pastor could claim persecution under the SC/ST Act when he is not even a Scheduled Caste after conversion to Christianity?

The villagers have also lodged written complaints against Believers’ Eastern Church and its Pastors with the Collector of the area and the Income Tax department to investigate the illegal source of funds of this dubious organisation, since it is splurging money on illegal conversions.

Believers’ Eastern Church, led by dubious scam-accused evangelist KP Yohannan, is under the scanner of authorities after raids last November at its headquarters in Kerala and establishments across seven states (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Punjab, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Delhi) reportedly found 14.5 crore unaccounted cash and evidence of hawala transactions worth crores. Documents revealing receipt of foreign funds by the Church without following norms were found. The church laundered money by establishing charitable trusts in various states, and amassed assets worth crores.

Last year, we had seen a similar issue from neighbouring Telangana where Christian evangelists were found to be stoking caste divides in a village in Jagtial district by misusing the same SC/ST Act. There they used Christian converts to foist false cases on OBC (Other Backward Caste) Hindus and also targeted the Dalit Hindu sarpanch (village head) of the village who was against extending reservation benefits to Christian converts. The Christians took objection to the Mahishasur Dahan (burning) carried out by villagers at Dussehra – ‘Mahishasur is a native/tribal God’ is one of the fake narratives planted by Christian missionaries to tear Hindu society apart.

In Andhra Pradesh at least 127 temples have been desecrated and vandalised since Jagan Reddy was sworn in as CM. At the ancient Ramatheertham temple, Prabhu Shri Ram’s murti was literally beheaded and arms chopped off.  But the CM ordered Christian ADGP Sunil Kumar, who has in the past demanded that Christian converts should be allowed to avail SC reservation benefits, to investigate the matter! Now, AP police is claiming that workers of opposition parties like TDP and BJP workers are involved in severing their own Gods’ heads to defame the Jagan government.

The Central Government should take vigorous steps against these evangelist organisations. Hindu elites from business, academia, law, bureaucracy etc. who are mostly fast asleep or punch-drunk on secular rhetoric need to realize that our way of life and civilization is under sustained attack – the elites might be safe today, but sooner or later their turn too will come.
