Ancient Sri Ramalingeshwara Temple murthis desecrated and vandalised by unknown miscreants on Maha Shivaratri: Gadag, KA

In a deeply disturbing incident that has sparked anger and grief among Hindu devotees, murthis at the historic Sri Ramalingeshwara Temple near Shingatalur village in Mundargi taluk, Gadag, Karnataka, were found vandalized on the morning of Maha Shivaratri. The attack on the sacred shrine, a day considered one of the holiest for Bhagwan Shiva worshippers, has left the local Hindu community shocked and demanding swift justice.

According to villagers, the temple had been lovingly prepared just a day earlier for the festival. Residents had gathered to clean the premises, apply limewash and fresh paint, and decorate the shrine in anticipation of night-long prayers and celebrations. However, when devotees arrived early in the morning to begin rituals, they were confronted with a devastating sight: the Shivlinga inside the sanctum had been broken, the face of the Nandi murthi smashed, and the murthi of Honnattemmavva Devi at the rear of the temple desecrated.

According to reports by The Hans India, the timing of the attack has intensified public outrage. Villagers strongly believe the act was deliberate and meant to hurt Hindu religious sentiments and disturb peace among the Hindu community. For a small settlement that had come together in devotion the previous day, the destruction of the sacred murthis on Maha Shivaratri turned a day of faith into one of pain and indignation.

As news spread, residents gathered on the temple premises and strongly condemned the act. They demanded an immediate police investigation, strict action against the culprits, and enhanced protection for places of worship. Locals emphasized that such attacks on religious institutions cannot be tolerated and called for authorities to ensure accountability and justice.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of temples and the need for decisive action to prevent such acts of vandalism from recurring. Villagers remain hopeful that law enforcement agencies will act swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.

In Karnataka, Hindus and Hindu temples no longer feel safe. The state is increasingly becoming a hotspot for crimes against Hindus, with incidents rising almost every day. Authorities appear apathetic, and the Congress-led government seems to be asleep, with little justice delivered. This weak and appeasement-driven governance is pushing Karnataka into one of its worst phases, where many Hindus feel insecure and unprotected.
