“The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested an indigenously developed High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS), taking the experimental platform to an altitude of 21 km above mean sea level.
The platform remained at an altitude of around 20 km for more than 30 minutes before it was commanded to descend. It was subsequently recovered successfully, while the flight performance data was analysed.
The system has been designed and developed by DRDO’s Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra, as a lighter-than-air platform for long-endurance operations in the stratosphere.
What happened during the test?
During the experimental flight, the HAPS reached a maximum altitude of 21 km and demonstrated its ability to maintain an altitude of 20 km for over 30 minutes……….”
