In a deeply disturbing incident, an 80-year-old Hindu woman named Lakshmidevamma was brutally raped and murdered in broad daylight in Srinivasapura, Kolar district. As per OpIndia, the accused has been identified as Baba Jaan (37), a resident of Gaffar Khan Mohalla in the same area. The crime, which has shocked the local community, was captured on CCTV, and the footage has since gone viral on social media. In the video, the accused is seen conversing briefly with the elderly woman, looking around suspiciously, and then swiftly dragging her behind a small, isolated structure that appears to be an old house. In addition to the heinous assault and murder, the accused, Baba Jaan, also looted ₹15,000 from the elderly victim.
According to the official police statement, Baba Jaan rifled through the woman’s bag, and when he found nothing valuable, he went on to sexually assault her. Forensic and medical reports have confirmed the rape. After the assault, the woman was allegedly strangled and murdered by the accused, who fled the scene. Police have confirmed that the accused is a known local wanderer with a history of alcohol addiction and erratic behavior.
Kolar district police successfully tracked and arrested the accused. He has been produced before the judiciary and is now in custody. Authorities have promised swift and strict legal action against the perpetrator.
