Hyderabad, Telangana: Dalit women brutally attacked by Islamist mob during Holi celebration

Following the attack on Hindus, especially women by Islamists in Chengicherla, Hyderabad at the Pital Basti in Malkajgiri, a large number of Hindu organisations registered a protest. Hyderabad BJP candidate Madhavi Latha and several leaders visited Pittal Basti and showed their support.

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Latha said, “Uppal locality which comes under Medupalli police, there is a locality called Pardiwadi. Pardiwadi is where the Pitalolu people live. On the day of Holi, women were dancing to songs. When it was time for namaz, they stopped the music. Once the namaz was over, they started dancing to music again. At this time, Muslim youth started taking pictures and videos of the women. An elderly woman there asked them not to take the photos and videos. The youth abused her and pushed her down. After this, they started hurling stones at the women and 8 women were hurt in their heads, some had 6-8 stitches. Some even vomited blood. One lady is in the hospital now.”

“After all this, police came to the scene and started beating up the Pardiwadis and took away their mobile phones. They took them away somewhere, we don’t know where they are,” she continued.

Madhavi Latha added that there was one more problem ongoing there. Latha alleged that in that area 2BHK homes were built and all the flats were given to Muslims alone and did not give them to the Pardiwadis who are from SC/St community.

She also alleged that despite the SC/ST women being beaten up so badly and abused, the FIR was filed under very simple sections by the police. She also added that only 1 complaint/FIR was filed when there were at least 20 victims.

Latha emphasised that she wants justice to be served to the people affected, more FIRs need to be filed. She questioned why the complaint was not filed under attempt to murder, communal riots, and SC/ST Act and also questioned why no Pardiwadi people were given the pucca houses.

She alleged that the women living there were not allowed to sing bhajans or fix a Bhagwa flag at their homes and that they were being instigated to leave the place by inciting fear. She also added that the Muslims living in that locality earlier were not troublesome. But the ones who have moved in recently 2 years ago in large numbers. She alleged that these people had come from outside and that their papers (Aadhar etc) were all bogus.

She also said she would file a case and get FIRs filed properly.
