Bengaluru, KA: Police seize gelatin sticks and explosives near school

In a startling development, Bengaluru Police made a significant seizure of gelatin sticks, electrical detonators, and other explosive materials from inside a tractor compressor vehicle in the jurisdiction of the Bellandur police station on March 19th, Tuesday. The discovery has raised serious concerns about safety and security within the city premises especially after the incident of the Rameshwaram cafe bomb blast on March 1st, 2024.

Based on TV9 Kannada reports, the seizure occurred after Police Sub-Inspector Revanna Siddappa of the Bellandur police station was patrolling towards Chikkanayakanahalli. He noticed several labor sheds on the land in front of Chikkanayakanahalli Prakriya School, with a tractor compressor parked nearby. Upon searching the area, the police discovered gelatin sticks, electrical detonators, and other explosive materials inside the tractor-compressor vehicle, which lacked proper licensing and safety measures. An FIR has been lodged under the Explosives Act and IPC Section 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances) as authorities intensify efforts to locate the owner of the vehicles for further details in the ongoing case.

Based on the reports from News Bharati, “the illegal and unregistered explosive items were seized, and an FIR has been registered against the tractor owners. An investigation is underway,” a police spokesperson said.

Fake bomb threats target schools in Bengaluru

Recently, there were bomb threat messages sent to several schools in Bengaluru. Although it was later revealed to be a hoax, there were suspicions of the involvement of foreign extremist organizations behind the bomb threat messages. Following this, bomb threat messages were also received by some schools in Tamil Nadu and other states. In such circumstances, the presence of suspicious objects in the vicinity of Bengaluru schools has caused alarm.

On March 1, two consecutive improvised explosive device (IED) detonations occurred at the well-known Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru’s Brookfield area, each separated by a mere five-second interval. Surveillance footage captured the Islamist extremist perpetrator in the act of depositing the bag containing the IED inside the cafe, providing critical evidence for the investigation. Still underway, the investigation into the Rameshwaram Cafe blast continues, and yet another shocking discovery has emerged in Bangalore involving explosive devices.

This development heightens concerns regarding the safety of the city’s residents and community. With Lok Sabha elections underway in the state, security measures have been tightened across all regions due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct. Following developments in Bengaluru, police are on high alert in the city.
