Samajwadi in-fighting video comes back to haunt Akhilesh Yadav

0
Yadav

A 2017 video clip has returned to haunt the Samajwadi Party that is positioning itself as the main challenger to the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

The video that highlights the infighting that had erupted in the Samajwadi Party just before the 2017 Assembly elections has now been tweeted by the Uttar Pradesh BJP.

The 1.5- minute video, titled ‘Aisa koi saga nahi jise Akhilesh ne thaga nahi’, depicts Akhilesh as the all-powerful SP leader who got power and position in inheritance.

The video incorporates a clip reportedly from SP’s national executive, which was convened by Mulayam on October 24, 2016, to bring warring factions within the party on one dais.

The video has a 15-second shot showing an angry Akhilesh snatching the microphone from Mulayam even as party MLC Ashu Malik tries to stop him.

A voice over in the background then rolls in – “Jin Akhilesh ji ko unke pita ne satta dilwayi thi unke hi saath unhone ye durvyavhaar kiya tha…. (Akhilesh misbehaved with his own father who gave him the power)”.

The incident led to a vertical split in the party with Shivpal Yadav forming his own Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL). The rift between Shivpal and Akhilesh continues till this day.

Samajwadi party (SP) MLC Udaivir Singh said, “The video is a deceitful attempt by the BJP to malign Akhilesh’s image and to divert people’s attention from its failures. The BJP is getting worried and is staring at an inescapable defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections.”

He further said that the “BJP itself has been witnessing a rift between its top ranks. It is therefore peddling frivolous content against the SP and its leadership.”

FIR against ‘farmer’ leader Sukhbir Khalifa for causing traffic jam and preventing ambulance passage: Noida, UP

0

An FIR has been lodged against ‘farmer’ leader Sukhbir Khalifa and around 230 of his supporters for causing a traffic jam and violating Section 144 at the arterial Zero Point circle in Noida, UP.

Due to the jam caused by these protestors, ambulances carrying patients also got stuck, thus endangering lives. The jam was resolved only when senior administration and police officials reached the spot.

Right from the outset, these protests have thrown ordinary life out of gear. Bike drivers have been attacked with swords and seriously injured when they tried to make their way through the blockades. Even Army convoys in Punjab were blocked and asked to ‘show documents’.

In December 2020 itself a petition was filed in Supreme Court to remove the protestors from roads and public spaces as the agitation is blocking emergency medical services in Delhi-NCR border areas. But neither the Courts, nor the government, did anything, while lakhs suffered.

Usually, protests in Delhi-NCR are highly regulated and only allowed in designated spots like Jantar Mantar or Ramlila ground. Even the massive anti-corruption protests that swept across the nation in 2011-12 were restricted to these designated zones in the national capital, and no citizen was inconvenienced.

What is worse is that these intractable and often violent ‘farmer’ protestors are still refusing to vacate Delhi-NCR, despite the much-needed farm reform laws being repealed by the government.

Seeing the centre cave in to their pressure tactics, the protestors have now dug in to push through their maximalist demands which include legislation to guarantee MSP for perpetuity and massive increase in the MSP procurement system, something which will drain the treasury and bankrupt the country, besides causing irreparable environmental damage by further incentivizing water-guzzling crops like paddy in arid areas like Punjab.

Christian Church and charity ‘Salvation Army’ faces lawsuit over unfair treatment of workers

Worldwide church Salvation Army (SA) is now facing a lawsuit for labor violations. It has been alleged that it failed to pay the people in rehabilitation who are forced to work in its stores. A class action lawsuit has been filed by five former rehab participants who said they were not paid for work they performed for the organization.

In this regard a report by Reveal News says:

The lawsuit, filed Friday in San Francisco Superior Court, alleges that the charity violated California labor laws by not treating the workers as employees and failing to pay them minimum wage and overtime. According to the complaint, the participants worked more than 40 hours a week in “physically grueling and sometimes dangerous” jobs. Some picked up donations and worked in warehouses and stores, where they sorted, priced and displayed clothing, linens, shoes, accessories and housewares. Others performed maintenance jobs, repaired goods or operated heavy machinery. In exchange, they received gratuities of between $1 and $25 per week or “canteen cards” they could use to buy soda, chips or other snacks at The Salvation Army canteen.

In a tweet thread, Suhag A shukla has highlighted how mainstream media harbors a bias for Hindus that has been visible in the manner it treated the Salvation Army case and the case against BAPS that faced similar allegations. The biggest giveaway of media’s Hinduphobia is when it spoke about the alleged ‘political ties’ of BAPS (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan) while it refused to take note of the deep political connection of SA.

It isn’t just the western media but also academicians and activists like Audrey Truschke and others of their ilk who are quick to declare Hindu organizations guilty but would go to any extent to defend organizations like SA. The activists relentlessly attack Hindus who just worship or speak at BAPS temple events, de facto accusing them of “connections” to unproven allegations. But no academics will similarly insist that we boycott Salvation Army.

Ironically, Salvation Army was invited by the local government to be present and asked to assist it when it was conducting raids on BAPS. The pertinent question to ask is why would a Christian charity organization be asked to join a raid on a Hindu organization by the local government? This smacks of differential treatment meted out to Hindu organizations by no less than the government itself. The asymmetrical targeting/public lynching of a major Hindu organization is striking.

Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu bias in western media and academic is well-known. However, the systemic bias against Hindus is clearly evident. It all ultimately boils down to the fact that the absence of a strong Hindu Dharmic nation state is allowing Hinduphobes to get away with their anti-Hindu agenda.

It must be reiterated that Shri Rajiv Malhotra’s suggestion of Bharat being the author of its own Grand Narrative is the only way to combat the rising worldwide Hinduphobia. This is how countries like China, Russia and Islamic nations that do not blindly follow western models of governance have been able to control the narrative on their own civilizational history in western academia. Unless we have a civilizational nation state, like USA/UK, Russia, China, Japan, Korea or the Islamic bloc, we will continue floundering and fighting sporadic battles as individuals with limited resources.

China’s birth rate falls to lowest level since 1978

0

China’s birth rate has plummeted to its lowest level since 1978 as the government struggles to stave off a looming demographic crisis, The Guardian reported.

Data released by the country’s national bureau of statistics shows there were 8.5 births per 1,000 people in 2020, the first time in decades that the figure has fallen below 10. The statistical yearbook, released at the weekend, said the natural rate of population growth – taking in births and deaths – was at a new low of 1.45, the report said.

The government is under pressure to prevent a potential population decline after decades of interventionist policies on childbirth and more recent pressures including high living costs, the report said.

It did not give reasons for the dramatic drop, but demographers have previously pointed to the relatively low number of women of child-bearing age and the rising cost of raising a family.

The yearbook reported a drop in per capita spending on educational, cultural and recreational costs, and health and medical services for rural and urban Chinese, and an increase in household income. Housing costs also rose, the report said.

China’s population woes are largely driven by a one-child policy that was implemented in 1980 and ran – with some exemptions – until 2015, but they are part of a broader pattern around the world, particularly in East Asia.

Governments and local authorities have introduced a swathe of policies seeking to reverse the trend, from relaxing limits on having children, to easing costs associated with education and child rearing, and introducing mandatory “cooling off periods for divorce”.

China’s yearbook revealed a fall in divorces for the first time since at least 1985, to about 4.3 m, though there were also fewer marriages, 8.14 m, compared with 9.27 m the year before, the report added.

Mamata, Kishor on poaching spree from Congress

0

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is at the centre of attention in Delhi with leaders queuing up to meet her during her visit to Delhi and three prominent politicians joined the party including one Congressman, one former Congress and a JDU leader.

The arrival of Banerjee in Delhi has created furore in the Congress with the grand old party guessing who could be the next.

Kirti Azad, Ashok Tanwar and Pawan Varma all three are former parliamentarians with diverse background, who joined Trinamool on Tuesday. Azad, a former cricketer and a former BJP MP who switched to Congress is now a TMC party member. Azad was feeling sidelined in the party and so decided to quit. He fought the Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket, but could not win. He was earlier with the BJP, but left after differences with the leadership. Azad’s wife is also active in Delhi politics.

Ashok Tanwar, former Haryana Congress president left the party and has now joined TMC, while Pawan Varma, former bureaucrat and former JDU MP is also now with Mamata Banerjee.

Sources have said, Congress leaders who are not happy with the party leadership are founding refuge in Trinamool as poll strategist Prashant Kishor has been playing the role of a facilitator for the new comers to join Trinamool. Kishor has been in fact approaching the leaders personally, sources said.

Earlier, both Sushmita Dev from Assam and Luizinho Faleiro from Goa, who joined the Trinamool Congress recently, were considered close to the Gandhi family. It was Faleiro who publicly said that he was approached by none other than Kishor and his team to join the Banerjee-led Trinmool Congress.

After winning the elections in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is also trying to make an impact at the national stage now.

“We have to see who has got the power to face the current dispensation which is ruling in Delhi and Goa. Definitely, I will support Mamata because she has fought, she has succeeded… She symbolises women’s empowerment which can bring this country back on the track of development and progress,” Faleiro said, describing the Congress as a “divided house”.

Now, the Congress, which was trying to protect its leaders from being poached by the BJP, needs to keep its guard active against the Trinamool as well.

Congress’ Goa state in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao had attacked Kishor and alleged that he is misguiding the TMC Chief. “What are their (TMC) intentions? They have just come here to help BJP. And I do not know whether Mamata didi knows or not. But the people who are running this IPAC (Kishor’s outfit), they have a different agenda altogether I feel. They may be betraying even Mamata didi also,” Rao claimed.

One of the Congress leaders said that Kishor is on a revenge spree to damage Congress but if few persons are leaving the party, it is not likely to affect Congress. The revenge is used as Kishor was likely to join Congress but it was stalled by the leaders in the party.

Hindus call for apology by Texas A&M Univ. for inaction on harassment of Hindu students: USA

Calling for accountability and respect, perturbed Hindus are seeking an apology from Texas A&M University (TAMU), USA for failing to take any concrete action to resolve the issue of reported harassment and discrimination of its Hindu students.

Rajan Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada today, said that it was shocking to observe the blatant apathy of taxpayer-funded TAMU even after the reports of harassment and discrimination of its Hindu students became public knowledge.

A resolution acknowledging harassment and discrimination Hindu students faced, was passed on October 20 at a TAMU Student Senate meeting. Few reports in The Battalion (student newspaper of TAMU) also recorded this harassment and discrimination issue.

Zed also wrote to TAMU System Chancellor John Sharp, Board of Regents, Deputy Chancellor, Academic Affairs Vice Chancellor, Equal Opportunity & Diversity Director; besides TAMU President M. Katherine Banks, Provost, Vice President Student Affairs, Office for Diversity, Dean of Student Life, Ombuds Officer, etc.; highlighting the “harassment and discrimination” issue; but no tangible plan seemed to be in sight to resolve it.

TAMU needed to come out with a strategic plan so that no student groups had to live through such reportedly abhorrent circumstances in the future, Rajan Zed noted. Zed suggested TAMU send its staff for training in inclusivity, dealing with harassment of minority religions, effective listening skills, etc.; so, the such an inappropriate behavior did not slip through in the future. TAMU officials should always keep their eyes and ears open to have a better feel of campus life, so that such issues never happen or get resolved before anybody complaining about these.

According to reports, Resolution S.R.74-16 took two meetings to pass in the 74th Session of the Student Senate on October 20 after heated hours long debates, acknowledging the harassment and discrimination Hindu students faced.

The TAMU Student Senate met on Wednesday, Oct. 20 and discussed the Support and Recognition for the Hindu Aggie (what TAMU students/alumni call themselves) Community resolution, which was brought up at the previous meeting on Oct. 6 in light of Gov. Greg Abbott’s Sept. 21 proclamation recognizing October as Hindu Heritage Month. The resolution was edited in committee to take into account the Oct. 6 debate, with an eventual passage with a vote of 29-23, the TAMU student newspaper reported

“While one of Texas A&M University’s Core Values is Respect, many Hindu students who gave testimony to the Student Senate testified that they all have faced oppression by some fellow Aggies, who mostly affiliate with Christianity,” the final resolution read.

Two speakers at the Student Senate meeting, nuclear engineering sophomore Maanya Gulati and Anu Khatri, president of the Hindu Students Association, shared their experiences as Hindu students on A&M’s campus and the effect this recognition will have. Gulati and Khatri both spoke about how Hindu students have faced discrimination inside the classroom as well as outside.

“In a religion class I took last semester, an essay prompt conflated putting pennies on [the statue of Sullivan Ross] to the practice of leaving offerings on Hindu deities,” Gulati said.

Gulati said even before beginning her freshman year at A&M, she was harassed by fellow Aggies, constantly telling her to go to different churches or Bible studies. She said, in her opinion, there is a drastic difference between evangelizing and harassment. She defined this line based on both sides consenting to the conversation.

Constantly texting someone about different religious events when they show no interest falls on the harassment side of the line, Gulati said.

International affairs senior Alexia Hernandez said the fact the resolution took two meetings totaling more than four hours of debate to pass shows this is a major issue within the Aggie community and within the Student Senate.

“It is really interesting to me how in the first instance of accountability toward a culture of unwelcoming underrepresented religions there is all of this debate and defensiveness instead of just coming to the realization that this has been an issue for a very long time,” Hernandez said. “And it’s really telling that this body is so defensive to such a little thing that has been confirmed to be true and is not accusatory toward an entire group.”

Conclusion

Hindus in Bharat are fed the propaganda that their society and institutions are inherently discriminatory towards underprivileged communities (aka ‘Dalits’) and minorities. The fact that no Hindu ever tries to convert a person from the minority is concealed, because that goes against the agenda of shaming Hindus for their religion. Similarly, no general category Hindu has ever forced a ‘Dalit’ to exclusively follow Vedic/’Brahminical’ practises and give up their own Dharmic panth/sect, whether it is Ravidassi, Warkari, or Sarna.

General category Hindus don’t just ‘tolerate’ this Dharmic diversity – we respect and celebrate it! If one really wants to understand the spirt of Hindu society and Hindu Dharma, one should participate in the annual pilgrimage or ‘wari’ where lakhs of Warkaris cover a distance of over 225 kms on foot over 21 days to reach Pandharpur’s  Vithoba Temple, in Maharashtra. All sections of Hindu society – rich and poor, young and old, illiterate and educated, men and women, belonging to all jatis and varna (aka ‘caste’) take part in this extraordinary religious experience.

Hindus are also fed the propaganda that we need to learn ‘religious tolerance’ and ‘secularism’ from the West, especially USA. The Christian roots of the Western world, especially the Anglosphere (English-speaking countries), and the way Christians are privileged in the West, is again concealed by our Hinduphobic elites. It is good that more and more Hindus living in the West, especially the younger generation, are sharing their experiences about the challenges Hindus face there.

Christian evangelism, or the belief that one’s religion and God alone is true and worthy of worship, is one of the leading causes of social disharmony and conflict across the world, especially in Bharat. All peace-loving people must come forward to challenge this supremacist and exclusivist world-view.

Maanya Gulati and Anu Khatri are true heroes, and full credit to those who supported them in passing this resolution at the TAMU Student Senate.

Bill to ban all cryptocurrencies to be tabled in Winter Session of Parliament

1
OBC

The Union government will move a Bill which seeks to prohibit all private cryptocurrencies in Bharat in the Winter Session of Parliament starting November 29.

It will be called The Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021. However, it allows for certain exceptions to promote the underlying technology of cryptocurrency and its usage.

The government’s objective is “to create a facilitative framework for the creation of the official digital currency to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India”.

The Bill has been listed for introduction, consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha. It is among 26 new Bills, which are to be introduced in the Parliament session beginning November 29.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said that all democratic countries need to work together on cryptocurrency and ensure that it does not end up in the wrong hands.

Giving an example of the virtual currency, he had said, “Take cryptocurrency or Bitcoin for example. It is important that all nations work together on this and ensure it does not end up in the wrong hands, which can spoil our youth.”

Several high meetings have been held to discuss the regulation of cryptocurrencies. The Parliamentary Standing Committee had also called for the regulation.

Enforced disappearances in Pakistan: Judge shouted, berated families with harsh language

0

Families of disappeared people in Pakistan reported that their efforts to compel authorities to return their loved ones through the courts were unsuccessful, a report by Amnesty International said.

Although cases have been documented as far back as the mid-1980s, the practice has been routinely used by Pakistan’s intelligence services since the inception of the so-called “War on Terror” in 2001, to target human rights defenders, political activists, students, and journalists, with the fate of hundreds of victims still unknown, the report said.

As per the report, Ali Imtiaz said that when summoned by the court, no one from the intelligence agencies or authorities appeared in court.

In cases when the authorities did appear in court, they would still not provide answers for the families.

Sammi Baloch recounted that when the authorities appeared before the court, they claimed her father had travelled to Afghanistan to train as a separatist, but they could not show any evidence to substantiate these claims.

“Unfortunately, these allegations and unsubstantiated claims are not limited to the authorities: two people Amnesty International spoke to described facing such unsubstantiated claims and allegations from the judges hearing their cases. One person reported that the judge suggested her husband had run away and not disappeared,” the report said.

Shabana Majeed described a scene where she was in a court hearing with other families of the disappeared, begging a judge for answers and justice about their missing loved ones, and the judge responded by shouting and berating the families with harsh language.

The report said people who access the justice system must be treated in a free, fair and impartial manner; the conduct of the judge in this instance is a violation of this right. The lack of progress in these cases, where families of the disappeared are treated without empathy or humanity, is indicative of the difficulties surrounding cases of enforced disappearances and the struggles of families who are fighting for information and justice for their missing loved ones.

In 2011, on the orders of the Pakistan Supreme Court, the Pakistan Ministry of Interior set up the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIED).

The mandate of this commission is to trace the location of a ‘disappeared’ person, find out who is responsible (whether State, individual or institution), ensure an FIR is registered and recommend standard operating procedures to law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

According to the COIED’s monthly report for September 2021, it has received 8,122 cases since its inception, of which 2,274 remain unresolved.

In September 2021, the Commission disposed of 27 cases, where 24 people had been traced, 13 returned home, six were confined in internment centres, five were confined in jail and three were deemed not to be cases of enforced disappearance.

Civil society and families of the disappeared, who have no representation on the COIED, have criticized the commission for not using the powers vested in it to investigate cases of enforced disappearances or bring those suspected of criminal responsibility to justice.

In 2020, the International Commission of Jurists stated that in nine years of operation the COIED had not held a single perpetrator of an enforced disappearance accountable for the crime. 50 Families of the disappeared who spoke to Amnesty International reported that after multiple hearings, those whose cases were before the COIED have received no answers or justice.

All of the families whose cases were before the COIED and who spoke to Amnesty International are still waiting for any information about their loved ones, in some instances years after proceedings were instigated through the COIED.

Farm laws repeal – a setback on the long path to Hindu resurgence

0
malnutrition
PM Modi delivers address to nation (Source: Economic Times/PTI/ANI)

“Repeal” of “farm” laws likely from regional electoral consideration (to disconnect angst from votes, reason Tikait insists on continuing drama). But it shows a caution that comes from fatigue, in turn willingness to rely on more “tried and tested” advice.

The danger starts from here: when commander becomes defensive and moves away from the aggressive campaign that gave him territory – some will claim its a ploy to make the enemy think commander has weakened and softened. But I am not sure that is the case here.

It seems in keeping with keeping other measures hanging or an undoubtedly clever but still a softening or retreat on steps (CAA, Article 370) that appears to be based on a calculation of testing waters and using delay to implement or rollback to deflate enthusiasm in the enemy.

I actually find it politically savvy attitude to cut “losses”. Problem is that in current state context this may mean a cutting forever. Electorally, an under siege mentality will develop that will gather around devoted voters which in turn may soften any electoral blow.

However, the long term ideological (which has been up in smoke for some time) and political legacy and therefore succession become very problematic. Even if many don’t even imagine it, that “succession” is an issue, especially as it will land up in a crucial time point.

In personality cult based systems like the current state, such cults are crucial for solving the “coordination problem” but they also tend to make the whole political engine dependent on and focused on and for the leader. They leave legacies that take forever to undo.

I maintain my earlier stance that this phase of the long path to Hindu reassertion was necessary, but Hindus cannot and should not get stuck in it as the endgame. This phase shows the weaknesses and faults of the first attempt, provides a breathing space, and prepare.

There will be lots of moves against Bharat, and it is not yet prepared ideologically to take on those challenges. But each such move is also an opportunity. As the flawed will give way and clear the path. It is not going to be pleasant. Yet, we will have to go through it.
