1971: The Apology question and Pakistan’s army museum

Bangladesh Foreign Minister A.K. Momen, on the sidelines of the recent celebrations of Sri Lanka’s 75th anniversary of independence, met Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar in Colombo. The Bangladesh minister raised with Khar the question of a need for Pakistan to offer a full, formal apology to Dhaka for the genocide committed by the Pakistan army in 1971 as the guerrilla struggle for Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan went on.

Predictably, the Pakistani Minister of State was unable to offer any reassurance to women that Islamabad was ready to come forth with an apology to Bangladesh. Indeed, this continued failure on the part of successive governments in Pakistan has stood in the way of an improvement in bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Given the circumstances which have defined ties between the two countries since the surrender of the Pakistan occupation army to a joint Bharat-Bangladesh military command in December 1971, it is unlikely that any doors will be opened to better diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Islamabad.

Pakistan’s rulers, beginning with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, have over the decades expressed their regrets over the tragedy committed in 1971. But none of them have ever ventured the thought that Pakistan is ready to express contrition for the atrocities committed by its soldiers in the course of Bangladesh’s war of liberation. Prime Minister Bhutto, on a visit to Dhaka in June 1974, was rather unwilling to visit the National Martyrs Memorial outside Dhaka. But when diplomatic norms compelled him to visit the memorial, he displayed a high degree of rudeness when he refused to doff his cap or to sign the visitors’ book.

Pakistani attitudes to the acts of Islamabad’s soldiers in Bangladesh have been an amalgam of the curious and the bizarre. General Ziaul Haq, who laid a wreath at the memorial in 1985, was asked by Bangladeshi journalists about his response to the repression exercised by his country’s army in 1971. His reply was as unclear as it was vague. ‘Your heroes are our heroes,’ he averred. And that was that. In subsequent years, Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto were clearly reluctant to be drawn into the apology debate. It may be recalled that Benazir Bhutto, a student at Harvard during the Bangladesh crisis, chose to take her father’s word for what was happening in Pakistan’s rebellious province rather than analyse conditions through reading western newspapers.

As for Nawaz Sharif, his government was thoroughly riled by the trials of Pakistan’s Bengali collaborators, many of whom had been rehabilitated by the regimes of General Ziaur Rahman and General Hussein Muhammad and by the civilian government of Khaleda Zia in the dark era covering 1975-1996 and 2001-2006, by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Pakistan national assembly adopted a resolution condemning the trials of what it considered loyal Pakistanis in Bangladesh.

And then comes the issue of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s attitude to the atrocities carried out by Pakistan’s soldiers in 1971. Prior to rising to power, of course with the patronage of the army, Khan was quite vocal in his condemnation of the military’s actions in 1971 on television talk shows in Islamabad. However, once in office and despite despatching messages of goodwill to Sheikh Hasina, he stayed clear of any public condemnation of the genocide fifty-two years ago. Out of office, he has more than once drawn attention, out of pique more than conviction, to the damage the army caused the state of Pakistan in the Bangladesh war.

That the state of Pakistan remains uncomfortable over the apology issue is nowhere more pronounced than a display of posters relating to the 1971 war in the museum of the Pakistan army in Lahore. The posters are a powerful hint of how Pakistan remains unable or unwilling to own up to the murder and rape of Bengalis committed by its soldiers in the nine months of the war in Bangladesh between March and December 1971.

One of the posters at the army museum would have one know that in 1971 it was not the Pakistan army but Bangladesh’s Mukti Bahini which ‘committed genocide’ in Bangladesh. A second poster, referring to Delhi’s involvement in the conflict, notes that it was the Bharatiya government which presided over the formation of South Asia’s first ‘terrorist’ outfit. The outfit, in the eyes of the Pakistan army, was the Mukti Bahini.

Given such knowledge, what forgiveness for Pakistan’s civil-military establishment on the tragedy of 1971? Foreign Minister Momen has spoken on behalf of Bangladesh to Hina Rabbani Khar. The likelihood is that the conversation did not register with the Pakistani Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The loss is Pakistan’s.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to examine a PIL seeking direction to state governments to frame rules for menstrual pain leaves for female students and working women.

Advocate Vishal Tiwari mentioned the plea for urgent hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and it agreed to consider the plea on February 24.

The plea, filed by advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi, said: “Few states provided menstrual pain leaves and ancillary benefits, women in their counterpart states are still bereft of any such benefits. It is accordingly a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution inasmuch as the Maternity Benefit Act differentiates women in the name of federalism and state policies.”

The plea contended that Bihar introduced menstrual leave for women employees in 1992, however menstrual periods have been largely disregarded by society, government, and other stakeholders, but some organisations and states have taken notice of it.

The plea pointed out there are several companies, especially startups, in Bharat which are offering period leave, even without any legal obligation.

It further added that despite the fact that women suffer from similar physiological and health issues during their menstrual cycles, they are being treated differently in different states of India.

The plea cited that the UK, China, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Korea, Spain, and Zambia, are already providing menstrual pain leave in one form or another.

It further added that the Clinical Evidence Handbook pointed out 20 percent of women suffered from symptoms like cramps, nausea, etc that are debilitating enough to hamper daily activities.

The plea said according to a research by the University College London, the pain a female experiences while menstruating is equivalent to the pain a person experiences during a heart attack.

CRPF jawans on duty in Pulwama 4 yrs ago remember fallen colleagues

A wreath-laying ceremony by CRPF was organised at the Martyrs Memorial in Lethpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday in honour of the bravehearts who laid down their lives on February 14, 2019.

Tributes were paid to the 40 CRPF jawans who died in that terror attack.

Fondly remembering the fallen heroes, the CRPF jawans, who were also on duty in Pulwama on February 14, 2019, said they miss their colleagues but their morale is high to take on the militants and end terrorism in Kashmir.

Karan Singh, a CRPF jawan who was a part of the convoy that was targetted by terrorists said they initially thought that it was a grenade blast or a tyre burst, but soon realised it was a terrorist attack on their convoy.

“We promptly took control of the situation and secured the area,” he said.

Ravinder Bodra, another CRPF jawan, who was on duty in Pulwama on that day, said they are proud of their fallen colleagues and the morale of the CRPF jawans is high.

“We have taken revenge. If in the future terrorists have similar designs, they will receive the same treatment,” Ravinder Bodra said.

“We have changed the SOP for the duty now, earlier vehicular traffic used to accompany the security forces convoy, now we don’t allow any traffic, when convoy moves,” P.R. Dwivedi, another CRPF jawan, who was posted in Pulwama four years ago, said while remembering his colleagues.

Teachers’ scam: ED issues lookout notice against TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya’s son

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing the multi-crore teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal, on Wednesday, issued a lookout notice against Souvik Bhattacharya, son of Trinamool Congress legislator and the former president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE), Manik Bhattacharya.

The latter is currently in judicial custody over this alleged involvement in the scam.

Sources said that following the interrogation of arrested youth Trinamool Congress leader, Kuntal Ghosh it has been revealed that a portion of the scam proceeds collected by him went to the accounts of former state education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee, Manik Bhattacharya and his son.

In fact, in the supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED at a special court of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Souvik Bhattacharya and his mother Satarupa Bhattacharya were named as beneficiaries of the scam.

ED sources said that since a hearing in the matter is scheduled soon, they doubt the possibility of Souvik Bhattacharya going underground. Hence, the central agency sleuths have forwarded the details of the charges against him and his picture to the Airport Authority of India and border guard organisations both at the land and water borders.

To recall, earlier before his arrest by the ED a similar lookout notice was issued against Manik Bhattacharya as well. Recently, the ED informed the special court of PMLA in Kolkata that Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets with special symbolic codes besides just two questions in the entire answer sheet were used in the primary teachers’ recruitment written examination which were “the root of the entire scam” related to the recruitment process.

The ED counsel also informed the court that Manik Bhattacharya and Kuntal Ghosh were the main brains in working out this strategy in this scam and this system of forgery was adopted in the recruitment of primary teachers both in 2012 and 2014.

Delhi court sentences 4 AQIS jihadis to seven years, 5 months in jail

A Delhi court on Tuesday handed seven years and five months’ jail terms to four Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operatives, who were convicted on February 10 of conspiracy for the commission of a terrorist act.

Special Judge Sanjay Khanagwal of Patiala House Court sentenced Mohd Asif, Mohd Abdul Rehman, Zafar Masood and Abdul Sami. The court had convicted the four under the relevant Sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

According to the convicts’ counsel, the four have already spent about seven years in jail, which will be taken into consideration as part of the punishment.

However, on the basis of the offences proved by the prosecution, life imprisonment is the maximum punishment.

On February 10, two suspects, Syed Mohd Zishan Ali and Sabeel Ahmed were acquitted.

On December 14, 2015, the police arrested Asif, a resident of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, who was found to be the India head of AQIS.

“On the basis of his revelations, Zafar Masood was also arrested from Sambhal on December 15, 2015 and Mohd Abdul Rehman was nabbed from Cuttack, Odisha on December 16, 2015,” a senior police officer of Delhi Police’s Special Cell had said.

According to the police, Rehman had visited Pakistan illegally and met top militants there including Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Sajid Mir, both wanted for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

“Abdul Sami, a resident of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) was apprehended from Mewat on January 17, 2016. He was a Pakistan-trained militant,” the police had said.

During investigation, the names of the two who were acquitted also surfaced as part of a conspiracy for providing financial and logistics assistance to the cadres of AQIS in the UAE.

“Ali was deported from UAE in 2017 and was arrested in this case whereas Sabeel Ahmad was deported in 2020. Sabeel was initially arrested in a terror case in Bengaluru (Karnataka) by NIA from IGI Airport in Delhi and later on, he was arrested in this case,” the official had said.

Plea in Supreme court against hate speeches & hate crimes targeting Hindus

Image used for representational purposes only. Image source - bharatvoice.in

Just on the heels of the Supreme Court pro-actively ordering the Maharashtra government to ensure that no hate speeches are made at the “Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha” in Mumbai last week, a Hindu organisation has moved the Supreme Court seeking action on a compilation of scores of hate speeches made by Muslim and Christian leaders against Hindus and Hindu Dharma. It is noteworthy here that Hindu leaders are singularly targeted as hatemongers when in fact, most of the time their speeches are given as a counter to the rabid hate speeches by jihadists calling for the killing of Hindus in Bharat or abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Justice K M Joseph headed bench had reportedly directed the Maharashtra government to ensure that no hate speeches were made at the rally and to video-graph the event and take action against anyone indulging in hate speech. Interestingly, the petition was filed by a Kerala resident and not someone from Maharashtra. So, when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pointed out that a person from Kerala is being apprehensive without knowing what is happening in Mumbai, Justice Joseph replied that anyone could file the petition.

A Lucknow-based NGO named, “Hindu Front for Justice” headed by Ranjana Agnihotri inspired by the Supreme Court’s enthusiastic preemptive stance to put an end to ‘hate speech’ in the country, has moved a petition for similar directions to protect Hindus from routine hate speeches made by rabid jihadi Islamists and evangelist Christian missionaries.

Advocate Vishnu Jain, filing the plea for the petitioner listed out the horrifying Sar Tan Se Juda (beheading calls) processions taken out by Muslims brazenly to terrorize Hindu community at various places in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

The plea also provided evidence of recent hate speeches made by Bihar education minister Chandrashekhar Yadav against Ramcharit Manas. The plea further listed the virulent hate speeches inciting violence against Hindus delivered in the last two years by Peerzada Taha Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif, Hooghly, West Bengal; Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan; Asaduddin Owaisi; Maulana Ilyas Sharafuddin; Ajmer Dargah khadims Syed Aaadil Chisti and Syed Sarwar Chisti; AAP MLA Amanutallah Khan; and Waris Pathan.

The petition also provided evidence of hate speeches by Christian evangelist pastor George Ponnaiah; preacher Mohan C Lazarus and Bishop Ezra Sargunum of Tamil Nadu. The petition also provided details about the mocking of Hindu Gods and Goddesses under the garb of comedy by stand-up comedians like Mnawar Faruqui, Alexander Babu, Aadar Malik, Surleen Kaur and Sanjay Rajoura.

Notably, the Supreme Court had questioned the Delhi police recently for the delay in action and investigation into the FIRs lodged against those who had delivered alleged ‘hate speeches’ at a Dharam Sansad organized in Delhi in December 2021 and ordered it to complete the probe and file chargesheet expeditiously. Pertinently, the Delhi Police had earlier in the Delhi ‘Dharam Sansad’ case filed an Affidavit stating that there was no actionable evidence in the content of the speeches and proceedings at the event. On the insistence of the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police strangely changed its stance and filed an FIR five months later on the incident in May 2022. Suresh Chavhanke, the Chief Editor of Sudarshan News and one of the accused in the case, has stated in his defence that he only took a vow for Hindu Rashtra in the name of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj and there was no call for violence made against any religious community nor were any weapons brandished in the event.

Coming back to the plea filed by the Hindu NGO, in addition to the hate speeches it also listed 17 instances of hate crimes against Hindus, including the barbaric beheading of Kanhaiyalal, an innocent tailor in Rajasthan for merely forwarding a post supporting Nupur Sharma’s alleged statement on Mohammed and Ayesha’s marriage. Pertinently in the Nupur Sharma case, while Nupur Sharma is forced to go into hiding and shun public life due to the incessant violent beheading and gang-rape threats, given to her not only from Islamist jihadists in Bharat but from the world over, Tasleem Rahmani who originally abused the Shivlinga found in Gyanvapi mosque and provoked Nupur Sharma to make the alleged statements on Mohammad is happily roaming free and continuing to spew venom in several national TV channel debates.

The Hinduphobic left-liberal media and leftist intellectuals that habitually hop to the Supreme Court at the drop of a hat and outrage on so-called ‘intolerant Hindus’, brush under the carpet this incessant provocative hatemongering against Hindus. The petition, therefore, requested the Supreme Court to direct the concerned governments to take strong action against the unabated hate speeches against Hindus in the country.

This petition filed by Ranjana Agnihotri through Advocate Vishnu Jain listing the hundreds of hate speeches and blood-curdling hate crimes committed against Hindus by Muslims and Christians puts the communal realities prevailing in India today in perspective and busts the fake biased narrative of Muslims being targeted in Bharat by “intolerant” Hindus post 2014.

It is hoped that Justice KM Joseph headed bench would show the same seriousness in demanding action against the slew of hate crimes and hate speeches constantly made by Muslim and Christian leaders targeting Hindus in the same zealous spirit it has taken up one-sided complaints against purported ‘hate speeches’ made by Hindu leaders. It is also hoped that the hate speeches and Sar Tan Se Juda processions to petrify Hindus are not dismissed by the Supreme Court as mere “dissent as a safety valve of democracy”.

Mother-Daughter Pramila & Neha burnt alive as anti-encroachment officers look on in Kanpur Dehat, SDM suspended, lekhpal arrested: UP

1
dehat

Kanpur Dehat Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been suspended and lekhpal was arrested after a heart-wrenching incident of a mother-daughter duo being burnt alive in their hut came to light. Anti-encroachment officers who were present at the spot stood as mute spectators and made no effort to rescue them.

Videos of the incident that have surfaced on social media show Neha and her mother Pramila locking themselves in their hut as authorities and police officials arrived in Kanpur Dehat on Monday to remove ‘illegal encroachments’. As the officials break the door, the hut catches fire. However, in an extremely insensitive move, the authorities continue bulldozing the burning hut even as Neha and Pramila’s screams are heard.

Neha and Pramila were burnt alive in front of the police and government authorities while Pramila’s husband Krishna Gopal received severe burn injuries. In another video, the sobbing voice of Pramila’s son is heard. “That is my mother who is burning”, he is heard saying. In a blasphemous act, the official broke the mandir and did not even bother to move the holy Shivling. Deputy DM Brajesh Pathak spoke to the family over video conference and assured them to fulfil all their demands.

Although the incident occurred on Monday, it was not until Commissioner Raj Shekhar met the family members personally and requested that the bodies were allowed to be taken for postmortem. Hindu Mahasabha, Brahmin Mahasabha, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Bajrang Dal joined the villagers protesting against the administration.

The villagers were angered by the death of Pramila Dikshit and Neha. They drove away the police and administrative authorities and undertook protests demanding the arrest of the guilty. A murder case has been registered against 39 persons including Maitha SDM Dyaneshwar Prasad, Rura SHO Dinesh Gautam, and lekhpal Ashok Singh among others.

In the meanwhile, a letter issued by Maitha Kanpur Dehat Sub-Divisional Magistrate dated February 13 alleges that Krishna Gopal Dixit is a local strongman (dabang) who has illegally occupied government land. The letter says Krishna Gopal erected a temporary structure and consecrated the Shivling on January 18.

dehat

However, nothing justifies the cruelty and insensitivity displayed by both administrative and police officials present at the spot during the incident. The Kanpur Dehat District Magistrate Neha Jain was seen merrily dancing away at night. She drove away the Dixit family members who had sought her help.

dehat

Lawyer and columnist Divya Kumar Soti has expressed the possibility of a conspiracy by some local broker against the poor Dikshit family. Moreover, evidence has surfaced on social media that indicates massive corruption in the Kanpur Dehat administration.

In a video of Pramila Dixit before the gruesome incident, she says only their property was destroyed while other structures were left untouched. She even accused the lekhpal of taking bribes. Krishna Gopal’s son Shivam Dixit levelled serious allegations against several authorities including the DM, SDM, and lekhpal of Kanpur Dehat and accused them of murdering his mother and sister by setting their hut on fire.

Krishna Gopal added that lekhpal and other officials were hand-in-gloves with one Gaurav Dixit and were acting at his behest. Several villagers have also accused the lekhpal of demanding bribes.

“A month ago we met the family and assured them that their house would be secured. I spoke to DM Neha Jain who assured me that she would take care of the matter. After that, I didn’t get any requests from the family. But now I have come to know that Jain drove them away”, said Pratibha Shukla, Woman Welfare Minister in the Yogi-led BJP government in UP. Evidence has also surfaced indicating the role of DM Jain in the entire matter. The action was initiated on Jain’s orders who pressurized the SDM and inspector.

This case is a classic example of how executives become authorities unto themselves. It is almost always poor Hindus who become victims of systemic discrimination and corruption as we have seen numerous instances where violence has been unleashed by Muslim encroachers who are pampered by Hinduphobic judiciary.

Meting out severe punishment to every guilty Kanpur Dehat administrative authority is the only way to ensure that the Dixit family gets justice.

Moinuddin Chisti’s Dargah complex at Ajmer is built atop destroyed Hindu & Jain mandirs?

1

Any Hindu visiting Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s Dargah at Ajmer is actually celebrating the desecration and destruction of an ancient Mahadeva temple. Not just the tomb, but in fact the entire complex is built atop remains of Hindu and Jain temples demolished by Muslim invaders.

One of the oldest structures, the Sandal Khana where sandal is prepared daily for the Khwaja’s tomb has a doorway which leads by an underground passage to a cellar where the bodily remains of the Khwaja are interred. This is where the original Mahadeva deity was enshrined.

Sandalwood was offered at this very site daily to Mahadeva by a dedicated caretaker Brahmin family. The descendants of that family are still maintained by the Dargah and called “Gharhyali” (Bell-striker) indicating that there was a large temple bell also at the site.

Sandalwood is considered a sacred and auspicious offering for worshipping Bhagwan Shiva due to its cooling effect on Halahala poison consumed by him. Chameli groves in the vicinity must also have been dedicated to Mahadeva as Chameli (Mallika) is one of Mahadeva’s favorite flowers.

The Dargah complex was built 250+ years after the death of Chisti, by Mahmud Khilji and the Mughals including Jahangir, Akbar and Shah Jahan. A pucca tomb and dome were built by Khilji only after 1464 CE. All primary structures were made from broken remains of Hindu and Jain temples.

The Buland Darwaza, the entry gateway to the complex, is raised atop 2 chatrees (canopies) over the gate & supported on both sides by 3 storied chatrees of carved stone, all stylistically of Hindu and Jain origin. They are covered with paint & whitewashed to hide the details.

The courtyard between the Buland Darwaza and the inner courtyard lies directly above cellars of old Hindu temples, of which many rooms remain intact. The entire complex was built over the sites of ancient Hindu temples by converting and adding to portions to existing structures.

The ancient Jhalra tank was also a part of the sacred Hindu complex earlier. Shah Jahan had the existing structures altered and the reservoir deepened after Akbar had constructed the Akbari Masjid on site. The tank is now used for Islamic ritual ablutions before offering prayers.

Ajaimeru (Ajmer) was famous as the city of temples, gods and water bodies centuries before Islamic invaders. Similar desecration & misappropriation is visible at the Adhai Din ka Jhopda mosque which was built directly on top of a large Hindu university and grand Vishnu temple.

Sufi “saint” Chishti came to Bharat with Ghori’s army to wage holy war on Kafir Hindus. He destroyed several Hindu temples, celebrated Prithviraj’s capture, forcibly converted thousands by the sword & slaughtered a cow daily at Ajmer to eat beef Kebabs and insult Hindus.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah which is touted as the hallmark of Hindu-Muslim unity by Bollywood and pseudo-seculars is actually a horrific symbol of brutal oppression built on the savage desecration and destruction of sacred Hindu and Jain temples by fanatic Islamic invaders like Chisti.
