Bangladesh: Unknown miscreants broke the Murti of Maa Durga in Faridpur

Attacks on Hindu temples are continuing in Bangladesh. Now, unknown miscreants have broken several temple idols, including the idol of Maa Durga. No one has been arrested so far.

As per the information, the idols were being made for the upcoming Durga Puja in a temple at Tambulkhana Bazar under the Kaijuri Union of Faridpur district. This morning, locals saw that the idols were vandalised. Hands and other parts of the Maa Durga, Sri Ganesh are broken. Soon, the news spread. Local Hindus gathered in front of the temple and started to agitate. They demanded immediate identification and arrest of the accused.

Local Hindus said the potter has been making the Durga idol for the upcoming puja inside the temple. He worked the previous night and left for his home. This morning, the idols were found vandalised. “We have no idea about who did this. But, we suspect the hands of Islamic radicals behind this vandalism.”

Notably, vandalism of Durga idols was widespread in Bangladesh before Durga Puja. Every year, hundreds of Durga idols are vandalised all over the country. In most cases, when the Police arrest a Muslim youth for the crime, local Muslim groups claim that the boy is mentally unstable. Due to the pressure, the Police are forced to release the arrested boy or youth.

In this case, a complaint has been filed in Faridpur Sadar Police Station. But, no arrest has been made so far.
