Bangladesh: Beef is cooked in the dining hall of Jessore Science and Technology University amid protests from the Hindu students

Hindu students are protesting against the decision to cook beef in the dining hall of Jessore Science and Technology University. They alleged that to hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu students, some people in the university administration did this.

However, on the 15th of March, the manager of the dining hall issued a notice stating that beef would be served to the Muslim students of the university during sehri on 16th March.

As the notice came up, Hindu university students unitedly protested against the decision. Very soon, the university administration called a meeting. A decision was made that beef would be cooked and served in separate utensils. It is also decided that beef will be cooked outside, not in the university kitchen.

But, Hindu students alleged that beef was cooked inside the kitchen. Although beef was cooked in a separate cauldron, it was served in regular bowls.

Some Hindu students alleged that since the university’s foundation 16 years ago, beef had never been cooked in the kitchen. But, some people of the administration with radical mindsets are trying to destroy the secular environment of the university and they encouraged Muslim students to eat beef inside the campus.

Hindu students immediately raised this issue. Some stickers said, “We can’t eat food in the dishes and bowl in which beef was served. It is done intentionally despite objection. Some people from the administration are involved in this. We are now demanding separate kitchen and dining rooms for the Hindu students of the university.”
