After the elections, Hindu minorities of Bangladesh are facing regular attacks and atrocities. Almost every day, Hindu minorities are being attacked in different districts. A fresh case has been reported from the Mongla Upazila of Bagerhat district.

As per the reports published in Bangladeshi media, Awami League-backed Islamists attacked more than 100 Hindu minority families in several villages of Mongla Upazila. Islamists beat the Hindu minorities, and looted their houses. Islamists also allegedly molested Hindu women in the village.

During a press conference, some of the persecuted Hindu minorities expressed their pain. They said that the attacks were orchestrated by the leaders of Awami League and backed by the winning MP candidate Habibur Nahar.

They alleged, “In the recent elections, most of the Hindus of Mongla Upazila supported independent candidate in Bagerhat- 3 Seat. But, the Awami League candidate won the election. Soon after the results, Awami League-backed Islamists attacked us.”

Persecuted Hindu minorities alleged that the police are not taking any steps to ensure their security. They alleged, “We went to the Police Station to lodge an FIR, but the Police forced us to file a general diary.”

But, Abul Hasnat Khan, the Superintendent of Police, Bagerhat district denied the allegations and said, “In many cases, victims do not want to file any complaint. I can assure you that there will be no negligency and law will take its own course.”
