Kishan Kumawat, who runs a grocery shop, was attacked by Islamists near a temple in Ochchan village, Gujarat. He and his wife were injured in the attack. People who tried to help were also assaulted by the Islamist mob. The attackers wanted to kill the man. The police have filed a case against 11 people, including two juveniles.
In Ochchan village, near the Ramji temple, Kishan Kumawat, the shop owner originally from Rajasthan, was attacked by two sons of Abdul Ahmad Patel on April 21 around 10:30 pm. The sons were angry because the victim asked them to leave for using bad language near his shop where women customers were present.
When the shop owner asked Abdul’s sons to leave, they got angry and started abusing him and his wife. Hearing the commotion, a group including Javid, Hujef, Mushtaq, Riyaz, and Abdul gathered and attacked the grocery shop owner. The mob also threw stones at another shop near the temple and tried to set fire to Kishan’s shop.
Kishan said that Abdul’s children had been eating from his shop without paying, and when asked for money, they threatened him to leave the village. When the attack occurred, Kishan’s wife tried to help but was also beaten. Thankfully, neighbours and others intervened, and the police arrived in time to stop further harm.
The village Sarpanch, Dharmendra Singh Rana, was also attacked when he tried to help Kishan. He suffered injuries to his back and neck. The attackers were shouting to kill Kishan. The police have arrested Abdul Ahmad Patel and his two sons, along with others. They filed a case against the accused under various sections of the IPC, including 143, 147, 149, 323, 337, 436, 504, and 506 (2).
