20 bombs recovered from government passenger bus, Md. Sarfaraz Ansari arrested: WB

West Bengal Police have arrested one Mohammad Sarfaraz Ansari from Bardhaman for carrying 20 bombs while he was travelling in a government bus. The security agencies in the state have issued a high alert since the incident. Reportedly, a major terror plot was in the works but have been thwarted due to this arrest.

Ansari, a resident of Kolkata, was carrying the bombs in an SBSTC bus headed to Suri from Kolkata. He was nabbed by Ghalsi Police for smuggling bombs via the government bus and was produced at the Bardhaman court.

As per the preliminary investigation, the target of the terror act was the Panagarh army camp as the package with the 20 bombs was to be unloaded in Panagarh. But after the bus had already started from Kolkata, the intelligence department of the army received the intel from their sources that bombs were being smuggled in a government bus carrying passengers. They worked with the help of officials at the Galsi police station. The information was also shared with the bomb squad of CID.

The bomb-laden SBSTC bus was stopped and raided at the national highway. That is when police recovered the explosives and officials from the Bomb Disposal Squad of the CID defused them.

The suspect was taken under arrest immediately. Further probe is underway to find out why the bombs were being transferred to that location and to uncover further information on all those involved in the terror plot.
