“Modi has Turned Senile, Should Retire & Go To Himalayas to Die” : Jignesh Mevani

Jigensh Mevani (36), cynosure of left-liberal eyes these days after his win from Vadgam assembly constituency in the just concluded Gujarat elections, made a startling comment in a recent TV show.

Appearing on AajTak channel in a Hindi language discussion alongside two other ‘youth icons’ from the Congress-secular camp – Alpesh Thakor & Hardik Patel – Mevani said

“99 pe aa gaye (BJP), yeh bhi bahut badi moral defeat hai. Aur Modi ji ke paas ab kehne ko koi content hi nahi bacha hai…kuch nahi bacha unke pas, mansik taur se buddhe ho gaye hain. Ab to apun yuva aayenge. Rajniti is desh ka yuva karega, yuva. Modiji ki umar ho chali, unko retire ho jaana chahiye..unko Himalya chala jaana chahiye apni haddiyan galane ke liye”

(BJP seat count came down to 99 , its a big moral defeat for them. Modi has no original content to offer, mentally he has aged. Now its the turn of the youth of this country to do politics. Modi is old, he should retire and go to Himalayas to let his bones wither away.)

Anchor Anjana Om Kashyap, who is no supporter of Modi or RSS/BJP by any stretch of imagination, was taken aback by Mevani wishing death for the PM of the country and asked “What does this mean? Do you think you should use such language for the PM, Jignesh?” Mevani shrugged off her rebuke to add “haan, unki umar ho gayi, unko bolo ki ghar jake baithe, aaram kare…bahut boring aadmi ho gaya hai” (yes, Modi has become old, tell him to go home and rest..he has become a boring man now)

While Mevani was making these remarks, Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel can be seen grinning in agreement. We had highlighted the dubious track records of these 3 and other young leaders touted as ‘game-changing politicians’ in an earlier article.

If not for twitter, Mevani’s remarks might have gone totally unnoticed.

Mevani is no stranger to such crass, obnoxious language and foot-in-mouth statements. Touted as the “brilliant face of the Gujarat Dalit agitation” by liberal propaganda sites like Scroll, Mevani had recently said that if he had two sisters, he would marry one to a Muslim. He was also in the news for using crude language and making anti-women abuses against a person who had called him alleging misappropriation of funds gathered.

Mevani has received funding for his campaign from the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of the controversial Islamist organization Popular Front of India (PFI), accused of supporting Islamic State and carrying out organized conversions of non-Muslim women in Kerala.

Mevani seems to have excited the secular-liberal camp more than any other face in recent times. He is seen as the person best equipped to strengthen the so-called Dalit-Muslim alliance which this camp believes is crucial to counter Modi’s development brand of politics which banks on a consolidated Hindu vote.

While this strategy of pumping up anyone that the powerful liberal establishment would like to prop up might have worked in years past, it remains to be seen if it will work in the age of social media. Commoners on Twitter were quick to point out the partisan credentials of the author of the pro-Mevani piece that Shekhar Gupta was plugging in the second of the above two tweets –

This tweet sums up the liberal obsession with projecting everyone and anyone who appears on the political scene as a potential threat to PM Modi –

Any public figure, and that too an MLA, wishing death for the country’s PM and exhibiting such naked age discrimination would probably get booted out of public life in a normal polity. But such is the power of the Lutyens liberal mafia that Mevani is likely to get away with this with barely a murmur.
