Khalistani threatens to kill PM Modi on the lines of Indira Gandhi’s assassination. 5 Such recent threats issued by Khalistanis

A Khalistani Sikh farmer has issued an open threat to kill Prime Minister Modi, reminiscent of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In a video circulating on social media, the Khalistani can be heard threatening that Modi will meet the same fate as Indira Gandhi. He then proceeded to raise religious slogans.

It is not the first time that Death threats have been made against PM Modi. Here are five instances when Khalistanis threatened & abused Modi.

  • Protests in Punjab over farm sector reforms spilled over to the Punjab-Haryana, Haryana-Delhi border, with videos showing protestors making threatening statements against PM Modi. One protester threatened that PM Modi would meet the same fate as Indira Gandhi, while another video showed a child leading death chants against the PM and Haryana CM ML Khattar. Fringe Khalistani elements hijacked the protests, and Punjab’s then-Congress CM Amarinder Singh was accused of adding fuel to the fire by allowing the protests to escalate.
  • Netizens discovered gaming videos depicting the assassination of PM Modi, with one video showing the PM being attacked by mobs. The video, created by YouTuber Manpreet Singh, was live-streamed and showed the PM being beaten to death. Singh initially laughed off the controversy but later apologized and deleted the video. The incident highlights Khalistani radicalization among some youth in Punjab, with concerns raised about the Congress government’s handling of the situation.
  • NCP chief Sharad Pawar issued a veiled threat to the Modi government, citing Indira Gandhi’s assassination for ‘upsetting’ Punjab farmers amidst ongoing farmers’ agitation. He warned against upsetting Punjab’s farmers, stating that they are contributing significantly to the country’s food production. His remarks came amid escalating violence at farmers’ protest sites, with critics accusing him of defending violence and anarchy. The BJP condemned Pawar’s statement, calling it an attempt to instigate the Sikh community and farmers and a serious danger to the PM’s life.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was blocked by protesting farmers on a flyover in Punjab, leading to a major security lapse. The incident occurred during the PM’s visit to Ferozepur, and the protesters were associated with the BKU Krantikari, a farmer union with past Maoist links. The Punjab Police and the state government faced criticism for the security lapse, and the Ministry of Home Affairs sought a detailed report and asked for strict action to be taken.
  • Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik’s video issuing veiled threats of ‘Indira Gandhi-like assassination attempts’ against the Modi government went viral on November 21, 2021. In the video, Malik warned of dire consequences if the farm laws were not revoked, citing historical events involving the Sikh community. The video was originally from November 8, when Malik spoke at the Global Jatt Summit.

Farmer protests, initially aimed at opposing the farm sector reforms, have taken a troubling turn with the emergence of threatening slogans and statements against PM Modi. The involvement of Khalistani elements and political maneuvering adds layers of complexity to the situation.
