Woman’s half-charred body found, J’kand Police question Muslim live-in partner

A half-charred dead body of a woman was recovered by police from Tiril Toli in Kalamati village, Khunti district, Jharkhand. The body was first discovered by villagers and reported to the police, after which SDPO Ashish Kumar Mahali and station-in-charge Jaideep Toppo reached the location. The upper body of the victim was found to be burnt, she had a tattoo on her hand and by first appearance, looked pregnant.

The body was identified by one Munsif Khan as his ‘wife’. Munsif, who is a dealer of old vehicles, said that he and the victim, Vinita, had done love-marriage; however, many news reports suggest that he was in fact the live-in partner of the victim. The victim was married and separated from her first husband and is survived by two children who are staying in a hostel. Vinita Tirkey was a resident of Simdega of Salgapur, but had been staying with Munsif of Mahavir Nagar, Augoda for several years.

The victim Vinita Tirkey

It is noteworthy, that despite Vinita being missing from Wednesday night, Munsif Khan did not report it to the police. After the half-burnt picture of her dead body discovered and reported by the locals went viral on social media, and it was identified as Vinita Tirkey, alias Anjali, Munsif reached the police station in Khunti and identified the body.

The dead body was then sent to RIMS for post-mortem, which was carried out at late night with the permission of the Deputy Commissioner. According to reports, the woman was first murdered and then the body was set on fire. There is also speculation that the woman was sexually assaulted before being murdered. The body will now be referred to the forensic department for further analysis.

SP of Khunti, Ashutosh Shekar, siad that the woman was probably killed in a different location and her body was then dropped in the isolated location. To disfigure her beyond recognition, the dead body was wrapped in plastic and then set ablaze.

After the images of the half-burnt corpse went viral and the news spread across like wild fire creating an atmosphere of panic in the area, Mukhiya of the Fudi Panchayat came out condemning the horror and asserted that the police must drag the murderers to justice at the earliest.

Locals have started drawing similarities of this murder to the horrendous Hyderabad rape and murder case in which a 26-year-old veterinary doctor was brutally raped and charred alive by Mohammad Pasha and three others. All the accused in the Hyderabad case were killed in a police encounter on December 6th, 2019.

Horrific cases of women being murdered by their Muslim live-in partners are beginning to emerge with sickening regularity. Here are a few such examples –

  • After bodies of Rekha Tigga (27) and her baby daughter Priyanka (5) were found in the septic tank of their rented house in Ranchi, her live-in partner Mohammed Shamim, a mason, was the prime suspect;
  • Chayanika Kumari (30) was strangled to death in Jamshedpur by her boyfriend Mirza Rafiqul Haque, a doctor, for refusing to convert to Islam and marry him;
  • 55-year-old Jalaluddin Khan burnt alive his live-in partner Sangita Devre (40), her daughter Pritee Shendge (19), and nine-month-old grand-daughter Siddhi at Sangita’s residence in Nasik, Maharashtra, when Sangita asked him to shift somewhere else till the time her married daughter was visiting her;
  • 19-year-old aspiring model Khushi Parihar was brutally murdered by live-in partner Ashraf Sheikh who smashed her head first with a tyre wrench & then with a stone.
