RSS Worker Hacked to Death in Kerala Temple Town Guruvayur, Communist-Islamist Nexus Suspected

Another RSS worker was hacked to death, allegedly by CPM workers at Nenmeni in the temple town of Guruvayur yesterday afternoon. The victim, Anand (23), was riding a motorcycle when he was attacked by the CPM workers in a car. Though he was rushed to hospital, his life could not be saved, police said.

BJP National President Amit Shah questioned Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s role in the lawlessness which has gripped Kerala –

The killers, who came in a car, brutally hacked Anand after hitting the bike from behind. Though he was rushed to a private hospital at nearby Chavakkad, he succumbed to his injuries. The killers abandoned the Maruti Swift car in which they had followed Anand’s bike at the spot of the attack and fled on motorcycle. Police said they have launched an intense search for the accused but refused to share any information about them with the media. However, a police official said they have received vital clues about the killers.

The BJP on Sunday alleged that the murder was carried out by the CPI(M) with the assistance of Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).

A friend of Anand belonging to Vadanappally, a small coastal town south of Guruvayur, who was travelling with him on the bike, was admitted to hospital with serious injuries. Anand, an accused in the case pertaining to the murder of young CPI(M) activist Fasil in 2013, was out on bail.

The BJP on Sunday called for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Guruvayur and Manalur Assembly constituencies on Monday to protest against the killing. The party, which took out marches in protest against the murder in various parts of Thrissur district on Sunday evening, will hold protest demonstrations across Kerala on Monday.

Condemning the killing of the RSS activist, State BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan said the incident proved that the CPI(M) could not give up violence. “That the CPI(M) is unable to end political violence and murders despite intense protests justifies the BJP’s argument that the Marxist party is a terror outfit,” he said.

The Marxists had killed 15 RSS-BJP men in Kerala since the CPI(M)-led LDF came to power under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in May, 2016, the BJP leader said. Alleging that Jehadists had taken control of the CPI(M) in Kerala, Kummanam added that the CPI(M) was in direct and indirect contact with Islamists.”

After leading a march in Thrissur city on Sunday evening against the killing, State BJP general secretary K Surendran said, “The CPI(M) committed this murder with the assistance of the SDPI (political arm of the Popular Front). The Government should urgent steps to arrest the culprits and ensure that such incidents do not recur.”

State BJP secretary B Gopalakrishnan, a native of Thrissur district, alleged, “Anand was hacked to death as per a conspiracy hatched by the CPI(M) in collusion with the NDF (Popular Front of India). This couldn’t have taken place without the knowledge, permission and blessings of the local CPI(M) leadership.”

Gopalakrishnan accused Sadanandan, secretary of the CPI(M)’s local committee in Brahmakulam near Guruvayur, of having direct link with the murder. “This incident proves that the CPI(M) is not prepared to lay down arms even after all the peace efforts. This also proves the failure on the part of the police to take precautions,” he added.

“We know that a brother of Fasil (Marxist youth murdered in 2014) had been regularly following Anand in car. There was threat to his life. We had lodged complaints with the police more than once on this. Today’s incident proves that the police had failed to do their duty,” said a district RSS leader in Thrissur.

The incident in Guruvayur has rekindled apprehensions of a resurfacing of political violence in Kerala, which has remained relatively calm for the past three months. The RSS activist was murdered just when the BJP had been carrying out a nation-wide campaign against Marxist violence against BJP-RSS workers in the State.

The BJP had carried out a massive 15-day all-Kerala Jana Raksha Yatra captained by Kummanam Rajasekharan last month as part of its campaign against what it calls Marxist Terror. The ABVP had held a ‘Kerala Chalo’ Maha rally in Thiruvananthapuram with the slogan ‘Marxism is Terror’ on Saturday.
