Rahul meets anti-Hindu Catholic priest, who denigrated Bhumi Devi and Bharat Mata, on ‘Jodo’ Yatra

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi met and posed with George Ponnaiah, the Catholic priest who denigrated Bhumi Devi and mocked Hindus saying “they can’t even pluck a hair of Christians”. The priest’s speech created much uproar as he had also said that DMK forming government is alms provided by the Christian community. He was arrested while trying to escape to some foreign country after multiple complaints were filed against him.

Pictures of Rahul Gandhi meeting with the rabid anti-Hindu Catholic priest from Kanyakumari, during his latest gimmick Bharat Jodo Yatra, flooded the social media yesterday.

Rahul Gandhi appears to have stayed in one of the institutions run by the Kottar diocese where he met Catholic priests including George Ponnaiah. Video of his conversation with them about whether Jesus is a God or not has surfaced on social media. Even there the priest can be seen showing his hatred for Hindu deities. When Rahul asks whether Jesus is a form of God, George Ponnaiah says, “Jesus is the only real God. Not like Shakti…or this power. He is god in the human form”, sneering at Hindu beliefs and committing sacrilege against Dharma.

George Ponnaiah was in the news last year when his video mocking Hindu deities and wishing miserable death upon PM Modi and Amit Shah surfaced on social media. The parish priest of Pannavilai in Kanyakumari under the Diocese of Kottar, George Ponnaiah took part in an event held to condemn closure of churches, ban on conducting prayer meetings, denial of permit to build churches and to pay tributes to naxal sympathiser Stanislaus Lourdusamy in Arumanai, Kanyakumari.

He mocked Kanyakumari MLA and BJP leader MR Gandhi and denigrated Hindu deities and beliefs in the process. He said,  “Gandhi isn’t wearing chappals saying Bharat Mata should not be stomped on. But we wear shoes because we don’t want the impurities in Bharat Mata to stain us. TN government distributes free chappals so that we don’t get scabies from Bhooma Devi. Bhooma Devi is a dangerous person. You’ll get scabies and psoriasis from her. That’s why you should wear chappals.”

He also threatened Hindus saying that the Christian community has already grown in Kanyakumari from 42% to 62% and are in majority now. “We’ll grow to 70% in a few days and we will continue to grow. You cannot stop us. I want to issue this as a warning to our Hindu brethren. You cannot even pluck a single hair”, he said. He didn’t leave the much abused Brahmins either. He derided the archakas of Hindu temples saying “Don’t think pastors are just like those pujaris who ring the bell. We are well educated”.

Hindu Post had covered the shady businesses and dealings of George Ponnaiah when he was arrested and Hindus of Kanyakumari started a campaign against buying products of church run companies. The Vatican took note of it and the Apostolic Nuncio, representative of the Vatican in Bharat, shot a letter to the Catholic bishops of TN. It noted that priests in TN had “a tendency to set up and manage independent trusts violating the canon law”. The Nuncio felt that “those trusts become financial and political power bases for the priests involved”.

He had ordered that, “Priests and religious should not be directly associated with any independent or standalone trusts or societies or For/Not-for-profit companies, unless their involvement has specifically been approved by”. So Rahul Gandhi appears to be hobnobbing with a priest whom even the Vatican identified as corrupt. It must be noted that Gandhi is spending most of his time at churches and church run institutions during this yatra.
