“I’ve been punished for being a Hindu” says girl forced out of her home in Muslim-majority area: Mumbai

A video (archived tweet) of a Hindu girl pleading for help after being forced out of her own home has recently come to the fore. The girl identified herself as Krishna Sarika.

“Today, I have been punished for being a Hindu. I reside in a Muslim-majority area and face constant harassment from them. They would sacrifice goats at my doorstep, play loud music, and demand that I should not play bhajans & kirtans. But I did not give in to their demands,” says Krishna.

She says further the Muslims threatened to get her evicted from her house. They told her they have Congress MLA Amin Patel’s support. They also said she alone would not be able to do anything against them as they had the power of several votes.

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) recently sealed her house and evicted her. She pointed out they have been legally living in the house since 1944. She also highlighted that many of the Muslim residences were illegally occupied. The house belonged to her grandfather. She said she was being punished because she was a Hindu and had complained about the constant harassment by her Muslim neighbors.

The plight of Krishna Sarika is similar to that Hindus face in Muslim-majority areas. Numerous instances have come to the fore, often even forcing Hindu exodus. Advocate Kaushik Mhatre explained the well-planned and executed land jihad in Muslim-majority Malvani. Mankhurd resident Karishma Bhosale and her mother were bullied and threatened after she asked the mosque next to her residence to lower the loudspeaker used during the 5-times daily azaan (Muslim call to prayer).
