“The government has notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026, establishing IST as the official time reference for civil, commercial and legal purposes across the country.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution issued the notification on 27 August under Section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, marking a significant step towards the government’s ‘One Nation, One Time’ initiative.

The rules will come into force 180 days after their publication in the Official Gazette, requiring government offices, businesses, financial systems and critical infrastructure to synchronise with the same time standard……”
