In a shocking incident which has been completely censored from ‘national’ media, a 58-year-old school teacher of Changjurai Ilashi Deuri Primary School near Jamunamukh in Nagaon district of middle Assam was raped and killed while on her way to school on 31 May.
A massive protest ensued at Jamunamukh after the incident to demand justice for the victim. As per police, the body of the female teacher was found near Kopili river and the post mortem report revealed that she was raped before being murdered.
According to The Hills Times, at least three persons were involved in the crime and two arrests have been made thus far by Nagaon police – Moinul Hoque and Salimuddin. Police is trying to nab other persons involved in the incident.
Two years back, the horrifying gang-rape of a 72-year-old Christian nun in Ranaghat, West Bengal had shocked the nation and dominated Delhi’s news headlines for days. Even before preliminary investigations could be completed, vested interests had pronounced Hindutva ‘extremists’ as guilty and Ghar wapsi as the motive behind the attack. When the findings of investigation agencies broke out, that all gang-rape accused were Muslims whose activities were traced to Bangladesh, those holding Ghar wapsi responsible for the incident of gang-rape mysteriously went silent.
Why are the same media houses and commentators who went ballistic over the rape of a 72-year-old nun in 2015, now absolutely silent over the rape and murder of a 58-year-old school teacher?
