“2020 Delhi Riots Accused Tahir Hussain Convicted: How India’s ‘Liberal’ Media Whitewashed His Crimes For Six Years”, The Commune, July 14, 2026

“A Delhi court on Monday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain and four others for the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, as reported in The Hindu. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh of the Karkardooma courts delivered the verdict, convicting Hussain for murder, kidnapping, rioting with deadly weapons, unlawful assembly, and promoting enmity between different groups.

Ankit Sharma’s body was recovered from the Chand Bagh drain on 26 February 2020. The post-mortem examination recorded 51 ante-mortem injuries caused by sharp-edged weapons and blunt force trauma. His intestines lay outside his body when discovered.

The Media Whitewashing Campaign

In the immediate aftermath of the riots, several media outlets and journalists engaged in what can be described as a systematic effort to whitewash Hussain’s crimes and portray him as a victim rather than an accused perpetrator…….”
