Assam: Anti-CAA protests erupt in different parts of the state

As the possibility of implementing CAA(The Citizenship Amendment Act) is coming near, protests erupted in different parts of Assam. Several organisations staged protests demanding the repeal of the law.

Today, members of the All Assam Students’ Union(AASU) started a 12-hour hunger strike in the Dighalipukhuri area of Guwahati in protest of CAA. They demanded immediate repeal of the law.

In Bilasipara, members of the AASU also started a 12-hour hunger strike against the law. Members of the organisation also issued a threat of self-immolation if the law is not repealed.

Protests also erupted in the Golaghat district. Members of different Janajatiya organisations in Assam started a 12-hour hunger strike.

In Nalbari, the same type of protests have been witnessed. The AASU led all the demonstrations. Also, several Janajatiya organisations joined the protests later.

However, on many recent occasions, Home Minister Amit Shah emphasised that his govt is determined to implement CAA before the Lok Sabha elections. And the statement furled protests in different North-Eastern states. The protesters also got support from various political parties.

Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has already instructed the Police and law enforcement agencies to prepare to face and control possible protests.
