Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators polluted Narmada pipeline, forged Bharatiya documents and encroached land; 51 arrested

In a recent crackdown, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has uncovered shocking details about illegal activities by Bangladeshi infiltrators. Following the arrest of 50 Bangladeshi nationals and the interrogation of over 200 suspects, authorities revealed that these infiltrators had filled Chandola Lake with waste from Ahmedabad’s Pirana dumping yard and obstructed the Narmada water pipeline, preventing the lake from filling with water. Subsequently, they established an unauthorized settlement along the lake.

Based on the reports from OpIndia, crime branch ACP Bharat Patel stated, “For the past several months, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has been actively conducting a drive to identify and address illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Those identified are either deported or face legal action if linked to criminal activity. Last month, two human trafficking cases emerged, along with incidents involving illegal transactions and forged Bharatiya documents, leading to the arrest of eight individuals. Following these cases, a detailed inspection was conducted, resulting in the detention of 48 individuals. Document verification confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship, and FIRs will be filed against them for producing forged documents.

Based on the reports from Lokmat Times, after four months of surveillance, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch initiated action and apprehended more than 50 Bangladeshi infiltrators, which included several women and children. However, it is reported that 60 to 70% of residents in the colonies they established have already fled. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian noted that many of those arrested had been conducting business under assumed Hindu names to avoid detection.

Satellite images from 2011 and 2024 reveal the extent of illegal encroachment around Chandola Lake, clearly illustrating the story of infiltration. By blocking the Narmada water supply, these infiltrators had kept the lake dry, which allowed their settlement to expand unimpeded. The Crime Branch’s investigation, using satellite imagery from 1985, 2011, and 2024, confirmed the scale of illegal occupation and waste dumping, shedding light on the severity of the issue.

Recent arrests across Bharat underscore the severity of illegal immigration from Bangladesh and the associated misuse of Bharatiya identification documents. In Maharashtra’s Pune district, 21 Bangladeshi nationals were detained for possessing counterfeit Aadhaar, PAN, and voter ID cards, revealing a well-established network aiding in document forgery. Meanwhile, in Karnataka’s Udupi district, a crackdown led to the detention of nine more Bangladeshi nationals, and in Tripura, eight additional Bangladeshis were arrested under similar charges.

These incidents mirror numerous cases across the country where Bangladeshi immigrants have misused official IDs, posing significant security concerns. Collectively, these cases underscore Bharat’s urgent challenges in managing border security, document verification, and the demographic impacts of unauthorized immigration. The potential growth of Islamist Abrahamic influences and identities among these groups raises additional concerns for the nation’s future stability.
