A major controversy erupted at the historic Badami Mandir complex in Karnataka’s Bagalkote district after a Muslim staff member was allegedly seen wearing slippers and hijab inside the sacred Mandir premises, triggering strong objections from Hindu devotees and tourists present at the site. The incident, recorded on mobile phones and widely circulated on social media, has since gone viral and sparked intense public debate over religious customs and respect for places of worship.

According to eyewitnesses and videos from the scene, the incident occurred at one of Badami’s prominent heritage Mandir sites, which attracts thousands of devotees and visitors annually. A Hindu tourist woman reportedly noticed the staff member seated inside the Mandir premises while still wearing footwear and immediately objected, calling the act disrespectful to the sanctity of the temple.

As per the Organiser reports, the viral video shows the woman confronting the employee and demanding that the slippers be removed at once. She allegedly accused the staff member of repeatedly ignoring requests to follow Mandir traditions despite being informed about the religious customs observed within the sacred premises. As the argument intensified, several visitors gathered at the spot, with many reportedly supporting the tourist woman and questioning why temple norms were allegedly being violated inside a Hindu place of worship.

In the video, the woman can be heard stating that she had initially made a polite request, but the employee allegedly refused to comply and continued sitting inside the premises wearing slippers. She further accused the staff member of displaying arrogance and insensitivity toward Hindu religious sentiments, which further escalated tensions at the location.

The confrontation eventually turned emotional, with the Muslim staff member appearing distressed and breaking down in tears during the altercation. The video also shows her making phone calls while explaining the situation to acquaintances. These visuals have further fuelled strong reactions online, with social media users sharply divided over the incident.

During the exchange, the tourist woman reportedly drew comparisons with practices followed at Islamic religious sites, questioning whether anyone would be permitted to enter a dargah wearing slippers. She argued that every place of worship, irrespective of religion, deserves equal respect and adherence to its customs and traditions.

The woman also referred to the employee’s identity card during the confrontation and urged her to learn and respect Mandir traditions while working within a Hindu religious site. If Hindus cannot be appointed as staff or in-charge at dargahs and other Islamic religious institutions due to religious sensitivities, then why are Islamists being appointed as temple staff in Hindu temples? What kind of self claimed secularism is this, where only Hindu religious sentiments are expected to be compromised while others are protected?
