Narayaniyam is a holy Sanskrit Grantha, which consists of beautiful poems from the Bhagavata Purana. It was written by Narayana Bhattathiri, during 16th century CE, who was one of the famous poets in Kerala. The Bhagavata Purana is a sacred Grantha, and it tells us about the significance of Sri Krishna, his wonderful Leelas, miracles performed by him and about his childhood plays etc.
The Divine Grantha Narayaniyam
The divine text, Narayaniyam is still read by lot of Hindus, especially by the Malayalee Hindus, and they consider it as the Mahaprasad of Bhagwan Krishna. This Grantha is recited by large number of devotees in the Guruvayur Krishna Mandir, and also in Sri Hari Vishnu Mandirs during the times of festivals. Narayaneeyam tells us about the avatars of Sri Hari Vishnu, the grace showered on his devotees, and about his supreme powers.
It contains the complete details of Bhagwan Narayana, and this beautiful work was completed by Bhattathiri at Kerala’s Guruvayur Mandir with the blessings of Sri Krishna. Narayana Bhattathiri was born in the year 1560 in a village in Kerala’s Malappuram district. He was able to write the Narayaniyam due to the grace and blessings of Sri Krishna. After writing the holy text, Narayaniyam, his Paralysis disease was cured, with the blessings of Bhagwan Krishna.
Through this Grantha, Bhattathiri had spread SRI KRISHNA BHAKTI amongst the people, and many people became Krishna devotees. Apart from Narayaniyam, Bhattathiri has also written lot several other devotional works. It is believed that he died at the age of 105 and reached the lotus feet of Sri Krishna after his death.
Importance of the Grantha
The chanting of Narayaniyam is believed to heal various mental and physical diseases. Furthermore, it is said to remove all sorts of doshas of the devotees. Discourses on Narayaniyam regularly take place in the Guruvayur Ambalam (temple) which is attended by a large number of devotees who eagerly watch the divine discourse.
