KPCC President K Sudhakaran distorts and demeans Ramayana

In a recent video interview with a newspaper, KPCC President K Sudhakaran (Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee) said that there were profound differences between politicians hailing from the northern and southern districts of Kerala. To drive home his point, Sudhakaran wrongly interpreted and thereby openly insulted the Ramayana.

Here’s a summarized transcript of the offensive portion said by Sudhakaran –

“How different are the politicians of south Kerala and Malabar (North Kerala)?

Yes, there are historical differences. I will share a story. (Bhagwan) Rama returned from Lanka after killing Ravana, his brother (Bhagwan) Lakshman, and his wife (Sita Devi), in Pushpaka Vimanam. When the vimana entered the southern part of Kerala, Lakshman thought of pushing his brother to the sea and escaping with Sita. When he thought of the consequences, they had reached Thrissur, and he changed his mind and felt guilty. Sitting in a corner, Rama patted him on the shoulder and said, “Yes, I read your mind. It’s not your fault. The fault lies with the land we covered…”

Sudhakaran made these disgraceful comments in an interview granted to a group of leftist journalists from The New Indian Express (TNIE). These journalists, especially the two women in the group, were heard laughing aloud hearing Sudhakaran’s sacrilegious rant. The KPCC president used cooked-up stories to indirectly point out that politicians from South Kerala could not be trusted.

Sudhakaran added that leaders from North Kerala are all straightforward, but that is not the case in South Kerala. To drive home his point, Sudhakaran said there were historical reasons, made up lies, and claimed that it was an ‘old story’ doing the rounds in Malabar.

This writer is a practicing Hindu from ‘Malabar’ and has never heard such stories. The KPCC president misinterpreted the Ramayana for short-term gains, but the policy backfired, with Hindus within the party coming out openly against his false propaganda.

Sudhakaran’s open barbs were aimed at Shashi Tharoor, who is running for the post of Congress party president. Sudhakaran alleged that Tharoor is still a trainee who has not assumed any organizational role, not even of a booth president. “It is incorrect to say that Tharoor is winning in Thiruvananthapuram because of his personality..he cannot succeed without Congress”, Sudhakaran said. When asked about his vote, Sudhakaran admitted that he would vote for Mallikarjun Kharge.

The KPCC president’s tirade against a Congress leader from his state shows the lack of influence Tharoor has over his colleagues. Experts suggest that Tharoor might be lucky if he could garner ten percent of the votes polled in the ‘elections.’ Such is the vice-like grip that Italy-born Sonia Maino Gandhi wields in the ‘grand’ old party while her opponents fight with each other over north and south.

Sudhakaran is from Kannur in North Kerala. Tharoor is a Congress member of parliament from Thiruvanthapuram in South Kerala. Incidentally, though Tharoor was born in London, he is originally from the Palakkad district. Palakkad was the second-largest city in the erstwhile Malabar district after Kozhikode and was formed by taking parts of the former district in the early 1950s. Tharoor has represented Kerala’s capital thrice.

Stung by comments and opinions, Sudhakaran later shamelessly denied that he mentioned the south-north divide. His vicious remarks came just weeks after Congress talisman Rahul Gandhi led a march across the length of Kerala to ‘unite’ the party.

Though he retracted his north-south divide statements, the KPCC President did not apologize for his sacrilegious rant that will offend each and every Hindu. Sudhakaran said the remarks were not meant to make ‘anyone look bad’ and ‘create discrimination’. He said he only repeated the story people tell each other in Malabar. The KPCC president claimed he heard such a story when he was young. Sudhakaran noted that the remark was not intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments or mind, and if anyone feels that way, it will be retracted.

Such open anti-Hindu comments and making a mockery of the sacred Ramayana should not surprise anyone who has been following Congress politics. Rahul Gandhi himself has made a sinister anti-Hindu speech, mocking and distorting the Hindu belief of rebirth, while inciting SCs to violence.

Tharoor requested the 9,800 Congress delegates with voting rights to vote for ‘change’ through a video message. He added that the election process is based on a secret ballot and that no one will know who voted for whom! That message was delivered in Malayalam without subtitles.

There are allegations that the whole process is rigged. These are the same Congress leaders who run around blaming the Electonic Voting Machines (EVM) once they lose any general election. To expect better from Congress’s dirty tricks department is foolish.

Meanwhile, Kharge said he had no shame in taking the advice of the Gandhi family.
