Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 01 February to 07 February 2026, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) An increasingly disturbing pattern that promotes Hinduphobia is becoming more and more visible on social media at the global level. The impact of this trend shouldn’t be underestimated as it is getting manifested in violence against Hindus.

2) Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief and I.N.D.I. Alliance MP Thirumavalavan has sparked a controversy after launching a scathing attack on ancient Tamil rulers, including the Chola, Pandya, Chera and Pallava kings, during a recent public address. In remarks that have drawn sharp reactions, Thirumavalavan rejected the reverence traditionally accorded to Tamil monarchs and blamed them for what he described as the cultural and linguistic decline of Tamil civilisation.

3) A youth from Amroha’s Gajraula area is under investigation after allegedly hiding his Muslim identity, taking a false identity on Instagram, and sexually exploiting a young Hindu woman under the false promise of marriage, leading to pregnancy and abortion. According to reports, the accused has been identified as Sahil, a resident of Gajraula in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

4) A shocking case of alleged forced religious conversions targeting Hindu women and minors has rocked UP’s Mirzapur with police uncovering a network operating through local gyms. The scandal surfaced after complaints from two victims women who accused gym trainers of luring them into relationships, blackmailing them with explicit photos and videos, and pressuring them to convert their religion.

5) Puncture shop owner Abu Khan was arrested after a viral video showed him raping a cow in the Damjipura area in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh (MP).

6) A shocking incident of religious intolerance and anti-Hindu violence has been reported from Putpak village in Gurmatkal taluk of Yadagiri district, Karnataka, where a mother and her son were allegedly assaulted by a group of radical Islamist youths after the son uploaded a photograph of Kesari Dhwaj on social media.

7) An entire neighbourhood in Agra’s Bhagwan Nagar colony has erupted in anger and fear after around 40 Hindu families simultaneously put up “house for sale” posters on their homes, alleging sustained harassment by local Muslims and police inaction. The unprecedented move has turned a long‑simmering local dispute into a high‑profile law and order and communal sensitivity issue in Uttar Pradesh.

8) A verbal confrontation broke out in Shanti Nagar, Doddaballapura, in the Bengaluru Rural district after an Islamist youth reportedly objected to the morning Suprabhata devotional chant being played at the Shanimahatma Temple leading to argument and confrontation between both communities.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) The killing of a Hindu student who had recently achieved remarkable success in a university admission examination has triggered widespread outrage and deep concern across Bangladesh, once again highlighting the growing vulnerability of religious minorities. According to reports circulating in local media, the victim had secured first position in the Dhaka University (DU) admission test. Shortly after this achievement, he was brutally murdered in what many observers describe as a targeted attack.

2) Students of Jagannath University (JnU) in Bangladesh inaugurated a temple on campus late Tuesday night (3 February) following a day-long protest against the construction of a toilet on land proposed for the temple site.

3) Serious allegations have emerged against the Bangladesh Army following a midnight raid on a Hindu-majority village in Dhanpur Union under Itna Upazila of Kishoreganj district. According to local residents, army personnel conducted house-to-house searches at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday (31 January), and allegedly subjected members of the minority community to physical assault and intimidation without any clear or specific justification.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
