Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 20 April to 26 April 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) A video went viral on social media, allegedly showing the vehicle of a senior police officer ferrying protestors during the anti-Waqf Act protests being organised at Shah Garden Grounds near Adyar Kannur in Karnataka’s Mangaluru. Refuting the allegations of the police vehicle being used to ferry protestors, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner, Anupam Agrawal, issued a clarification stating the police vehicle was not used for facilitating protestors but to carry an injured minor boy to the hospital.

2) An incident has taken place in which meat was cut and desecrated on the samadhi of Shree Krishnadevaraya. His burial site has been converted into a meat market. Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal termed this an insult to the extraordinary ruler and unparalleled military leader.

3) Bidhan Majumder and his family, residents of Basudebpur village under the jurisdiction of Raiganj Police Station of Uttar Dinajpur district, were attacked by Islamists for not selling their home. The Majumder family lived in a Muslim-dominated area, and the Muslims were reportedly pressuring them to sell their home.

4) A horrifying case of fraud, coercion, and religious deception has emerged from Bihar, where Kamal Ashraf, a clerk in the state’s education department, is accused of luring 16-year-old girl Archana Kumari into a fake relationship under the false identity of Sumit Kumar, only to exploit her physically, emotionally, and financially.

5) A shocking case of love jihad has surfaced in the Pallavpuram area of Meerut, where a 17-year-old flower-selling girl was allegedly targeted and lured by a tempo driver belonging to the Islamic community. The incident has sparked outrage among locals and Hindu organisations demanding immediate and stern action.

6) In a chilling episode, terrorists in Pahalgam, Kashmir, targeted tourists after identifying them as non-Muslims. Terrorists in Pahalgam asked tourists their religion and shot when told they were Hindu. The attack came days after a video of Pakistan COAS Asim Munir ranting against Hindus had gone viral on the internet.

7) Shilpa (22), a young BCA student from Chikkamallur in Shiggaon taluk, tragically took her own life after being relentlessly blackmailed and mentally tortured by Islamist Mohammed Ramzan Nadaf, a furniture shop owner from Haveri.

8) Assam Police arrested AIUDF leader and MLA Aminul Islam for his derogatory remarks about the Pahalgam terror attack, where Hindus were targeted and murdered. He also termed the Pulwama attack a government conspiracy.

9) The Police lathicharged on the protesting Hindu villagers in Sekendarpur village of English Bazaar of West Bengal’s Maldah district. They were protesting against the brutal murder of Nimai Mondal.

10) A Christian missionary was reportedly involved in the religious conversion of 50 women, children and men in Motipura village of Kota district, Rajasthan. Allegations have also surfaced regarding his remarks about discarding images of Hindu deities in a drain. The police have initiated legal proceedings against the missionary John Matthew for offending religious sentiments, making threats and enticing conversions through incentives.

11) The Madhya Pradesh police arrested Wasim Khan and Tanveer Qureshi for sharing highly offensive and insensitive posts on Facebook in connection with the Pahalgam massacre.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalised persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) A teacher named Kanti Lal Acharya was forced to resign from his position by a Muslim mob in Sitakunda in Chittagong district. Acharya had taught in the school for 35 years.

World

1) Khalsa Diwan Society Gurdwara in Vancouver and Surrey’s Lakshmi Narayan Temple were desecrated with pro-Khalistan graffiti. People have called it an attempt to instil fear.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing hindupost.in@gmail.com. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
