Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 23 March to 29 March 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Rajasthan BJP legislator Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, a descendant of Rana Sanga, demanded a strict action against Samajwadi Party MP MP Ramji Lal Suman who claimed that the Rajput ruler was a ‘traitor’ and invited Babur to India, which led to the establishment of Mughal rule.

2) Two schoolboys from the Adivasi community, Prashant Dhele and Anand Ingle, from Lohara village in Akola’s Balapur taluka were allegedly beaten mercilessly by a police officer. Reportedly, the police official, identified as Assistant Police Inspector Gopal Dhole of Urla Police Station, took the adverse step as the schoolboys had kept a WhatsApp status featuring an image of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on horseback.

3) Pastor Bajinder Singh, who was accused of sexually harassing a woman, has come under the scanner yet again for assaulting his employees. In CCTV footage that has surfaced on social media, he was seen assaulting his employees. The viral video showed Singh flinging a bag at a man and then slapping him multiple times. The self-styled preacher was also seen attacking a woman seated in his office.

4) A minor dispute between children in Northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur area turned into a tragedy for the only Hindu family living in the Muslim-majority area. The head of the family, Radhe Shyam, lost his life after being stabbed. Several others, including the son of the deceased, sustained injuries in a violent clash that followed a minor dispute over a scooter in the JJ colony in the area.

5) Surat POCSO Court sentenced Ashad Altaf Virani to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 on him for raping a minor Hindu girl.

6) A man has been arrested for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Mumbai. The accused has been identified as Wajid Hazrat Momin. In a post on social media, Wajid said: “Don’t know how Auranzeb killed him, the painful screams are heard till date.” Wajid has been booked for inciting religious sentiments.

7) Islamists suddenly gathered in the town area of the Mothabari and attacked the Hindu-owned shops. They also attacked and vandalised the cars on the road.

8) In the Shalimar Garden police station area of Ghaziabad, Islamist neighbours dragged a Hindu family out of their house and beat them up. The video of the fight is viral on social media. The fight took place when the Islamist mob objected to talking to a neighboring Muslim woman with the husband of the Hindu family. Police have registered a case in the matter and arrested four accused, including a woman.

9) Tension gripped Karpoorigram village in Bihar’s Samastipur district after a man allegedly vandalised a murti of Bhagwan Hanuman, leading to protests and unrest in the area. The accused, identified as Mohammad Rashid, a ‘mentally unstable’ resident of Karpoorigram, was immediately arrested by the local police.

10) Dang and Tapi, two districts in the southeastern part of Gujarat, are deeply affected by the illegal Christian conversion of unsuspecting tribals living in rural areas. Even though missionaries and churches have been active here for years and the conversion of Hindu tribals is happening at a rapid pace, this issue has not caught the attention of the mainstream media, nor has there been any discussion about it.

11) A dispute broke out between two groups after a pet dog entered a mosque in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Moradabad. Subsequently, after the Taraweeh namaz, people from the Muslim community pelted stones at women who were doing kirtan in the Mandir. Seeing the situation, the SP Rural conducted a flag march in the village and deployed a large number of police forces. An FIR has been registered against 30 people in this case.

12) Tension brewed in Jaipur on Saturday after folk deity Veer Tejaji Maharaj’s statue was vandalised in Pratap Nagar, Sector-3. Some anti-social elements damaged the statue inside the Tejaji temple, sparking massive outrage among Hindu organisations and residents.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Extremists belonging to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vandalised the house of Asim Kumar Das’ family and issued death threats to them in Sylhet city. It must be mentioned that Das is differently-abled. BNP leader Jasmine Begum and her brothers Raihan Mia, Kawasar and Kamal Ahmed pelted stones and bricks at his house. They also broke the glass panes. When the victim’s parents attempted to stop the extremists, the latter assaulted them with sticks and pipes. The BNP leader and her aides also entered the premises of Asim Kumar Das’ house and carried out vandalism.

2) The land of Sandhya Rani Bishwas was forcibly grabbed by her Muslim neighbour, Mukti Begum, in Raipura sub-district under Narsingdi district.

World

1) An Indian-American student and activist has said the content of the course on Hindu Dharma offered by the University of Houston is Hinduphobic and “distorting Bharat’s political landscape”. According to an Indian tv channel report, the university has said it is reviewing the concerns raised by the student named Vasant Bhatt. The University of Houston’s Lived Hindu Religion course is offered to students online, with video lectures delivered weekly by Professor Aaron Michael Ullrey.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing hindupost.in@gmail.com. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
