A formal representation has been submitted to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Bengaluru, raising serious concerns regarding alleged violations of visa conditions by a foreign national, Pastor Sean Feucht. As per TOI reports, it is reported that he entered Bharat on a tourist visa but has engaged in activities that go beyond the permitted scope of such a visa.
Engagement in prohibited activities
According to the representation, the individual has been actively involved in organized Christian religious activities, including preaching, evangelism, and proselytization. These activities are explicitly prohibited for foreign nationals holding tourist visas under Bharatiya Nyaya Samhitha. Such actions raise significant legal and regulatory concerns, as they suggest a deliberate disregard for visa norms.
Bharatiya visa regulations clearly restrict foreign nationals on tourist visas from participating in missionary work, religious conversions, or organized religious events. The reported actions, therefore, constitute a direct violation of these conditions and point toward possible misrepresentation at the time of obtaining the visa.
Who is Sean Feucht?
Sean Feucht is an American Christian evangelist, worship leader, and missionary known for his involvement in global evangelical outreach and revival movements. He is associated with initiatives such as the ‘Let Us Worship’ movement and has traveled to multiple countries, conducting prayer gatherings, worship events, and faith-based outreach programs. Feucht has been vocal about spreading Christian teachings and has often engaged in activities aimed at religious revival and evangelism, which, in several contexts, have been linked to efforts encouraging religious conversion. His work largely operates at the intersection of music, ministry, and missionary engagement, drawing both support from followers and criticism in regions where such activities intersect with local laws and regulations on proselytization.
Call for immediate administrative action
In light of these violations, the representation by Advocate Girish Bharadwaj urges authorities to take prompt and stringent action. This includes verifying the visa status of the individuals involved, initiating legal proceedings where necessary, and considering measures such as deportation and blacklisting to prevent further breaches of Bharatiya laws.
The incident also highlights broader administrative gaps and a lack of coordination among key agencies, including the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Such lapses may allow violations of visa conditions to go undetected or unaddressed. This matter underscores the urgent need to reinforce monitoring mechanisms and ensure strict enforcement of visa regulations.
No individual or foreign national may be permitted to engage in religious preaching or proselytization in Bharat in violation of established laws and visa regulations. The country’s legal framework is clear: those entering on a tourist visa must strictly adhere to its conditions, and any deviation cannot be justified under the guise of religious activity. The question that arises is simple: who are they to disregard the laws of this land and attempt to operate beyond its legal boundaries? Such actions must be dealt with firmly to uphold the rule of law, ensure national integrity, and maintain respect for Bharat’s regulatory and constitutional framework.
