Communist fascist intolerance in Kerala – Fatwa against BJP MP Suresh Gopi’s Vishu Kaineettam

Communist fascist intolerance led the CPM government in Kerala to ban Temple Melsanthis (head priests) from accepting the one rupee Vishu Kaineettam from BJP MP Suresh Gopi in Thrissur district of Kerala. This fatwa comes from the same communist regime that distributes Qurans to Muslims all over the state.

Vishu is celebrated to mark the region’s spring and harvest season and honors the triumph of Bhagwan Krishna over the demon Narakasura. Kaineettam is an ancient Hindu tradition where the father or eldest male of the family gives a token amount of money to all his family members, especially women and children. Traditional belief suggests that this blessing will multiply and help both the giver and the receiver prosper.

The MP arranged one lakh rupees in one rupee notes and has distributed it to well-wishers all over Thrissur. He also visited the famous Vadakkumnathan Temple in the middle of Thrissur city, handed over 1000 one rupee notes to the Melshanti (chief priest), and requested him to distribute them.

Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB) intervened and banned Temple priests from receiving Kaineettam from the MP. Without naming the MP, CDB officials issued a press release and ordered priests not to accept such offerings. Communists claim that this is a ‘misuse’ of temples and that Suresh aims for political mileage. Such communist fatwas do not auger well for our society.

A couple of days ago, Suresh distributed the same to children, women, the elderly, and BJP activists who queued up to receive the gift. Some of them, especially the children and the young, touched his feet to seek his blessings. That he was seated in his luxury SUV van triggered communist outrage, and they opined that it was not appropriate for him to allow people, especially women, to touch his feet.

Marxist propagandists on the net tried to insult Suresh but went silent after similar images appeared showing commoners touching the feet of communist leaders, especially a photo of Bhagyavathi (mother of Walayar sisters who were raped and died) touching none other than Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s feet.

Two of Bhagyavathi’s minor daughters were raped and killed in 2017 allegedly by some local CPM cadre with contacts in the right places. Bhagyavathi sat on Dharna in front of the secretariat, tonsured her head, met Vijayan, and lay on his feet in her quest for justice. All the pedophile killers were acquitted in 2019, and she contested against Vijayan in the Dharmadom constituency during the 2021 assembly elections.

That infamous incident, known as the Walayar rape and murder case, still haunts the conscience of Keralites the world over. A POSCO court freed the accused, citing ‘lack of evidence’ and a shoddy investigation. The court observed that the investigating officers, the doctors who conducted autopsies, and the prosecution lawyers all allegedly participated in hiding the truth. Public outcry did force a re-evaluation, but nothing has happened ever since.

A video of former health minister KK Shailaja blessing a couple of girls who touched her feet also started circulating.

Suresh Gopi brushed aside the allegations and asked his critics to think of the good intention behind Kaineettam. He added that he was not canvassing for votes. BJP state president K Surendran reminded the media that the communists oppose Hindu traditions and rituals.

Suresh continued to bless those who sought them, but some organizers of public meetings are now asking those who come to meet him to desist from touching his feet. As a mark of protest, his supporters are distributing one rupee notes to devotees in front of temples.

Interestingly, those who came for the Kaineettam were not just Hindus. Among those who met him was an elderly lady whom Suresh Gopi helped get back her house and land that a bank had seized. Suresh touched her feet and sought her blessings after giving her the Kaineettam. No media house bothered to cover that incident, including the so-called pro-Hindu ones.

Suresh Gopi has an enormous influence over the electorate in Thrissur, from where he contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Though he lost, he did corner around 3 lakh votes or 30% of the votes polled. Back then, the communists understood that Suresh had a real chance at winning and so put up a weak candidate against him, to ensure a Congress victory.

He is also a national film award winner and was nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP by the BJP. His defeat in 2019 did not discourage him, and he continued helping the community and fighting for the people of Kerala. Well educated, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology and an MA in literature. Incidentally, the Congress candidate who won from Thrissur is absent both in the district and Delhi.
