Punjab CM Channi recently announced that a Bible study chair would be set up at the university level in addition to the Christian community being given representation in the state government boards.
A report by The Indian Express in this matter says:
Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi Thursday said Christian community would be given due representation in the state government boards and announced setting up of a chair at university level for the study of the Bible. Channi made this announcement during a state-level function to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Jesus Christ at Gurdaspur…
…Speaking on the issues raised by the Christian community, Channi said that the problem of graveyards would be resolved in the districts where the community has a presence. “The land for graveyards would be provided where it is not available but the community has a sizeable presence there,” he said, adding that a community hall would be constructed in each district in order to enable the community to hold functions there.
Questions have been raised in connection with the Punjab CM’s religious identity since he took the oath. While interviewing his wife after his appointment as CM, Sudarshan News TV channel observed a Christian cross with a crucified Jesus hanging on the wall. An image has also surfaced which shows Punjab’s new CM Charanjit Singh Channi at an event by one Pastor Hans, who was reportedly trained by evangelist Ankur Narula.
The decision to set up Bible study centers once again creates doubts with respect to his religious identity even though he is reportedly a Dalit Sikh. Now, if the Punjab CM is truly a crypto-Christian as evidence suggests, Punjab could be in for another spurt of unbridled evangelism with dangerous consequences for the nation as a whole.
