Meghalaya: BSF foils smuggling attempt to Bangladesh, recovered sugars worth INR 10 Lakh

The vigilant troops of 200 Bn BSF Meghalaya, in a joint operation with Meghalaya Police on March 18, executed a joint operation resulting in the seizure of a considerable quantity of sugar valued at over Rs 10 lakhs.

The illegal consignment was seized near the Rongra bordering area along the South Garo Hills-Bangladesh International border. The smugglers were taking the sugar to Bangladesh.

The seized sugar, intended for unlawful cross-border trade, was promptly handed over to the Rongra police for further legal proceedings.

Recently, Bangladesh has faced a sugar shortage. Due to this, smugglers from Bangladesh are now using hilly areas of the North-East to smuggle sugars. In recent weeks, massive amounts of sugar were recovered and seized from different border areas. Besides, apart from sugars, clothes and medicines are also being smuggled.
