A 40-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men in West Bengal’s Namkhana village in South 24 Parganas district on April 8, reports India Today. The accused poured kerosene inside the woman’s private parts and tried to burn her alive.
The report says –
“According to the complaint, the woman was abducted around 4 am when she went outside to use the washroom. She was alone in the house when the accused kidnapped her, took her to the second floor, and gang raped her. The accused then tried to burn her alive by pouring kerosene inside her private parts.
The victim’s screams roused her neighbour, who came to check on her. When the accused saw neighbours approaching, they fled the scene. The woman, who was terrified by the incident, did not immediately file a police report.
Her health, however, began to deteriorate on Saturday. She was initially taken to Namkhana block hospital, but on Sunday she was transferred to Kakdwip hospital.
Meanwhile, Namkhana Police have arrested two people in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as the victim’s husband’s elder brother and a relative.
Superintendent of Police, Sunderban Bhaskar Mukherjee said that a gang-rape case has been filed and a medical report is awaited.”
This crime comes days after the horrific Hanskhali gangrape and murder of a 14-year-old minor by a TMC leader’s son, Sohel and his friends. Even more shocking was CM Mamata Banerjee’s crude dismissal of the Hanskhali case as a ‘love affair/pregnancy gone wrong’ and her criticism of media for ‘politicising’ the incident.
The lawlessness and barbarity in West Bengal is just not ending.
