West Bengal: Mother of BJP worker is murdered in Hooghly, protest erupts

Massive protests erupted today in the Sugandha area of Polba of the Hooghly district. Angry BJP workers were protesting against the murder of BJP worker’s mother. 

As per the reports, angry BJP workers and leaders gheraoed Polaba Police Station for a long time. The protest was intensified when the party MP Locket Chatterjee joined the protest. They were demanding immediate identification and arrest of the accused. 

On the evening of the 12th of February, the dead body of an older woman was found in a closed brick field. Her throat was slit. Later, she was identified as Jyotsna Saha, mother of active BJP worker Raju Saha. 

After recovery, the Police sent the body for postmortem. Also, a case has been filed in the Polba Police Station under section 302 of IPC.

Citing the murder, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee attacked the ruling TMC government of the state. Taking to ‘X’, she wrote, “While Mamata Banerjee’s cronies shamelessly exploit women for petty gains, her goons mercilessly target BJP workers and their families. The people demand accountability and come 2024, they will deliver a resounding verdict against TMC’s reign of terror.”

Superintendent of Police, Hooghly (rural), Kamonashis Sen, said, “The Police have already started the investigation. We are trying our best to find out the reason for the murder as well as to identify the accused.”
