Sword-wielding Islamists on two-wheelers spotted in R T Nagar, arrested by Bengaluru police

Amidst rising tensions in Bengaluru, reports have surfaced of sword-wielding Islamists riding scooters, further intensifying concerns and tension among the Hindu community. Based on reports from The Hindu, four Islamist men driving bikes and carrying weapons were detained by police in R.T. Nagar after causing fear among residents of Sultanpalya Main Road on Sunday. The incident comes to light as the news of the recent attack on a Hindu shopkeeper for playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in his shop simmers. BJP Politicians and Hindu activists attribute the escalating tensions to the political landscape, citing the Congress’s alleged role in emboldening certain groups for such incidents.

Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Naik and his team were conducting random vehicle checks when they encountered the accused and their associates joyriding recklessly on the narrow bylanes. Identified as Mohammed Farhan Malik (19), Adnan Shariff (18), Abdul Riyan (19), and Akhil Basha (18), the accused Islamists were booked under charges of criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, rioting, and public nuisance. The weapons, including a machete, along with the two bikes, were seized by authorities.

Residents of Bengaluru were left shaken as reports emerged of a group of Islamists brandishing swords while riding scooters in the city. The incident, occurring shortly after an assault on a Hindu shopkeeper for engaging in religious practices, has sparked fear and outrage among the local populace.

In recent times, safety has become a pressing concern among the people of Bangalore, particularly in light of recent incidents such as the Rameshwaram Cafe bomb blast and the attack on the Hindu shopkeeper. There is growing unease among residents regarding the apparent lack of seriousness from the Congress government in addressing the underlying causes behind these incidents and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
