Serial impersonator Ishaan Bukhari, who had links to Pakistan, arrested in Odisha

Odisha Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested 37-year-old Sayad Ishaan Bukhari alias Ishaan Bukhari alias Dr Ishaan Bukhari from Neulpur village in Jaipur district of Odisha yesterday on charges of cheating people. He used to change his identity from time to time. Sometimes, he became a neurosurgeon, sometimes an army doctor, and sometimes an officer in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

STF Inspector General JN Pankaj said the man with multiple fake identities allegedly had links with several people from Pakistan and some suspicious elements from Kerala. The top official said that the police have not found any connection with Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) thus far.

Fake documents recovered from Bukhari

He forged documents to show that he had a medical degree certificate from Cornell University, a top Ivy League college in the US. To cement his identity as a doctor, the fraudster also obtained certificates from the Canadian Institute of Health Services and the Christian Medical College in Tamil Nadu and got a fake medical degree certificate.

The swindler planned to keep international degrees, affidavits, bonds, ATM cards, blank cheques, Aadhaar cards and visiting cards to create a new identity to defraud people. In the raid conducted based on secret information from the STF team, the police recovered over 100 documents and many objectionable materials.

Bukhari had married six women

JN Pankaj said the man with multiple identities married at least six women coming from different parts of the country, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Kashmir, etc and had romantic relationships with several women. He was active on several websites and apps and used his identity to defraud people. The accused had some links with anti-national elements, but his exact role needs a detailed investigation.

Kashmir Police were also looking to arrest Bukhari, who was linked to several cases of forgery and fraud, and a non-bailable warrant had already been issued against him. The STF Inspector General said the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and a joint team from Punjab, Kashmir and Odisha will interrogate him.
