Mumbai: Islamist stalker brutally attacks teacher

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Sanjay Nagar, Kurar Village, Malad (East) of Mumbai, a 30-year-old teacher fell victim to a brutal assault perpetrated by a 22-year-old Islamist local resident identified as Mohammad Haroon Idrishi also known as Chaman. The brutal attack, with an iron rod, was purportedly inflicted by the Islamist man whom she declined to marry. The victim is presently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a nearby medical facility.

According to reports from the Free Press Journal, Chaman, in an apparent fit of rage over the teacher’s rejection of his marriage proposal, purportedly assaulted her with a rod. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, sustained serious injuries and was promptly rushed to the ICU of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali for urgent medical attention.

The timeline of events reveals a troubling delay in police response, as authorities arrived at the scene approximately five hours after the assault was reported. By this time, Chaman had managed to evade capture, leaving the victim in a vulnerable state.

The assailant’s history of allegedly stalking the victim since 2021 has raised concerns over the adequacy of measures to protect individuals from persistent harassment and threats. The victim has lodged several complaints in the past few years, but the police officials have failed to take proper action. It has been reported that Chaman had repeatedly pressured the victim into a marital union, despite her apparent lack of consent.

Based on reports from Times Now, following intense efforts by law enforcement agencies, Mohammad Haroon Idrishi alias Chaman was apprehended on Sunday and taken into custody. A case has been filed against him under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused has been remanded to police custody until April 4, as confirmed by the Kurar Police to a news agency.
