Md. Shamim (45) arrested for raping 11-year-old girl: Moradabad, UP

45-year-old Mohammed Shamim was arrested man on August 24 for abducting and raping an 11-year-old girl in UP’s Moradabad district. The incident happened when the girl was playing outside her house. The accused kidnapped her after giving her a sedative, said police.

The survivor, who studies in class VI, was later found unconscious at an abandoned place and there were injuries on her body, said officials. The girl’s father mentioned in his complaint that she was allegeldy raped by two persons but could identify only one of them.

Divulging details about the incident, circle officer Ganesh Kumar said, “The girl was found unconscious. Her parents alleged that a resident of the same area was involved in the crime. We have booked and sent the accused to jail while the survivor has been sent for medical examination.”

An FIR has been registered against Shamim under the relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.

Moradabad district in western UP is part of a pocket of high Muslim density region. The Muslim population in Moradabad was over 47% as per the 2011 census.
