Jamshedpur: Special Court awards Ataullah 25 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 5-year-old girl

Nearly 3 years after the rape of a 5-year-old girl in the Jugsalai area of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, the case finally gets its closure. On April 29, the court awarded Ataullah Malik 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.

In 2019, Ataullah Malik, a resident of Jugsalai Gaurishankar Road in Jamshedpur, abused and raped a 5-year-old girl at her home. Jugsalai Police registered a case against the accused under the direction of the court. The accused has been directed to pay a penalty of 55,000 rupees under various sections of the IPC. The court has also ordered a maximum of 7 years imprisonment under the POCSO Act on non-payment of the penalty.

The court has handed the accused 25 years jail term with a 50,000 rupees penalty and 5 years of jail with a 5,000 rupees penalty under IPC Section 376 AB and Section 8 of the POCSO Act, respectively. The entire amount will be given to the minor victim. The case was heard by POCSO Special Court Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay.
