He pretended to be Hindu, made her read kalma, sexually exploited and then discarded her as a ‘Chamaari’

Instances of Islamists faking Hindu identity to trap Hindu girls are on the rise with the latest one being reported from Uttar Pradesh (UP). As per a Swarajya Mag report, a 22-year-old Dalit woman fell victim to Intaak’s grooming who took on the Hindu identity of Aman Sharma to exploit her.

The woman’s father Naresh Kumar filed a case against the accused in early July. In his complaint to the local police, Kumar said that one Intaak posed as ‘Aman Sharma’ and entered into sexual relations with his daughter on false promises of marriage. Accordingly, a case was registered against Intaak who was booked for rape and also under the relevant sections of UP’s new anti-conversion Act along with the Atrocity Act as the woman belongs to the Scheduled Caste Jatav community.

While rejecting Intaak’s bail on 16 August, the court order noted that the woman belonging to the Hindu Jatav community had been subjected to abuse by Intaak. The woman who is a teacher in AVM school came in touch with Intaak a couple of years ago. He introduced himself as Aman Sharma and began pressurizing the woman into a physical relationship under false promises of marrying her.

He used to call the woman to different places where he would force himself on the woman. As per the woman’s statement, he kept promising to marry her and stated that he was a Hindu. However, he once took her to a madrassa using trickery where he compelled her to read the kalma. He even changed her name to Rihana after having converted her to Islam.

When she asked him to marry her, he refused to do so even though she had converted to Islam. Intaak is believed to have abused the woman and stated that he couldn’t marry her as she was a ‘chamar’. In fact, he wedded another woman two days after the madrassa incident. It has also come to light that he kept taking 50-60 thousand rupees from the woman. Furthermore, he threatened the woman’s father.

Swarajya Mag report says:

Cases such as this, where women — or their families — accuse men of hiding their real identity and posing as Hindus to trap them in love, with an eventual aim of sexually exploiting them or converting them to start a Muslim lineage, are emerging from across India with an alarming frequency.

The latest Bulandshahr case falls in the same category. Although the FIR in her case was filed on the complaint of the woman’s father, she supported all the allegations made on her behalf when this correspondent spoke to her. She narrated her story willingly.

She says she met the accused about two years ago. He worked at a welding workshop near her house in Gulawathi. He introduced himself as Aman Sharma.

The woman was initially skeptical about getting into a relationship given the difference in their castes, but Aman assured her that it didn’t matter to him. In time, he would convince his family as well, he told her.

They began dating. Aman, however, would be away from Gulawathi for weeks at a time. They would meet every one or two months. The venue was almost always the same — a tubewell located around 20 minutes’ walk from her house.

They made sexual relations several times — near the tubewell. Asked how she did not suspect what his real name was, the woman says Aman would wear a kalawa on his wrist.

“The subject of religion never came up during our conversations. He would wear a kalawa on his wrist, so I had no reason to suspect anything amiss,” she says, and adds, “but when I learned the truth about him, I realized I made light of several things when they should have bothered me. For instance, he never picked up any call he received on his mobile phone, and never allowed me to see his mobile screen.”

The woman further stated that Intaak had changed after he got her converted to Islam. “He told her he was all set to marry someone else. He also told her that the only way he would marry a “chamaari” like her is to make her his second wife. Intaak is from the Meo Rajput caste” Swarajya says.

In view of the frequency with which such instances of grooming are taking place, it is essential that Hindu girls stay alert and keep their family and community in the know so that Islamist groomers don’t take advantage of them.
