A Hindu woman from Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Bhopal has accused colleague Nehal Khan of cheating her and forcing her to adopt Islam. The victim Nidhi*, a psychiatrist by profession, has filed a police complaint alleging fraud, physical assault, and insult by Khan owing to her Hindu identity. Furthermore, she has also accused him of trapping her in a relationship by hiding his Muslim identity.
Nidhi stated that it was only much later that she learned about Khan’s identity and ideology. She said that he supports the complete Islamic conversion of Bharat. Her video statement says that the accused also fraudulently transferred two hospitals purchased by her in his name. A nurse employed at her hospital has also filed molestation charges against Sahil alias Riyaz Iliyas Khan, who was hired by Nehal Khan. Both the accused are in jail at present.
The Ashoka Garden Police Station registered an FIR on 18 May based on Nidhi’s complaint. She says that she separated from her husband within a month of their marriage in 2018 due to family issues. Subsequently, she started working at a general hospital where Khan befriended her.
It has also come to light that Khan borrowed money from Nidhi’s mother to open a multi-specialty hospital. However, the hospital ran into losses. He eventually became a partner without paying a penny in a general hospital purchased by Nidhi. He even began investing profits from the general hospital in his multi-specialty hospital.
Nidhi became aware of the accused’s real identity after they consummated their relationship on November 2, 2018. When Nidhi confronted him about his Muslim identity, he said that he was unsure if Nidhi would accept him knowing his true identity. Subsequently, he became violent and physically abused her on occasion. He also said that he would marry her only if she converted to Islam. He turned down Nidhi’s offer of court marriage saying he didn’t have faith in the country’s laws.
Nidhi also came to know that all property documents had been transferred in his name without her knowledge. He even refused to act against Sahil when Nidhi brought up the matter of Sahil having molested a staff member. The accused reportedly said that he would always support a Muslim and even tried strangulating Nidhi during the course of the argument.
“He asked her to stay quiet or face damage to her face. Before taking her car and leaving, he reiterated his condition for her to accept Islam for “nikah”. Khan even threatened to kill her parents. Nidhi further told the police that Nehal had a physical relationship with her earlier on the pretext of marriage. He had been pressurizing her to convert ever since she found the truth”, noted Swarajya Mag.
Nidhi recorded her statement under provisions of section 164 of the CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code) in a local court on May 19. The police confirmed that Khan was arrested on May 20 in the Gandhi Nagar area. He has been booked under various sections of the IPC, including 376 (rape), 376(2)(n) (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) with sections 3 & 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021.
Further investigations in the case are ongoing police officials at Ashoka Garden police station said. The TT Nagar police, where the nurse filed a case against Sahil, said that the accused was arrested on May 18. He has been booked under IPC section 354 (assault or using criminal force) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
“Whenever she used to worship Hindu deities, he would call it a ‘nautanki’. He said he never understood why Hindus worshipped Rama, as he was just a king who ruled Ayodhya. How can he be a God when he was a normal king? or Your lord Krishna was a rapist who married hundreds of women”, Swarajya quotes Nidhi on Khan.
“Tum log raah se bhatak gaye ho, but-parasti karte ho, Islam hi sacchai par chalne wala dharm hai (You people are misguided, you worship idols. Islam is the only true religion)”, Khan said about Hindus. While forcing Priya to accept Islam, he opined “convert right away. Soon when this Modi-Yogi government loses power, the Taliban will take over this country, and everyone in India will convert to Islam”.
