Assam: Large quantity of explosives seized in Cachar, one arrested
Last night, in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Cachar Police, large quantity of explosives was recovered in Kalain. The explosives were recovered from a vehicle and the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
The driver identified as Prasenjit Baishnab, a resident of Gumra area was driving a Tata Sumo car with Assam registration, whose number is AS 11 CC 9214.
According to police sources, based on credible information, the joint team stopped the car on the Kalain-Masimpur road. During search, 400 Gelatin sticks and 400 detonators were found in the car.
During primary interrogation, it is known that he procured these materials from Meghalaya. Why he procured such amount of explosives or where he was taking these materials, police trying to know by interrogating the accused.
Cachar SP Numal Mahatta confirmed the arrest and said, “Due to Swift action of police, possible harm to public safety is averted. Legal action is initiated against the accused.”
