Islamist mobs have repeatedly run amok in various parts of the country attacking not just common Hindus but also police officials. Recently, two police personnel were including a lady constable when an Islamist mob attacked Doboka police station in Assam. Readers may also recall how head constable Ratan Lal was brutally murdered by a mob during the 2020 anti-Hindu Delhi riots.

Here we list 10 incidents of brutal assaults on police and police stations by Islamist mobs in recent times:

1) On June 16 (Friday), an Islamist mob numbering 200 to 300 people reportedly attacked police officials and vandalized public property in Gujarat’s Junagarh District. The mob was angered as authorities had served a demolition notice to an illegal dargah on the road. The violence involved stone pelting and vandalization. As the violence unfolded further, large troops of police officials rushed to the area. Three policemen, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police, were injured during the violence. 174 people in the mob were detained by the officials.

2) Two police personnel including a female constable were injured when a Muslim mob attacked a police station in Assam’s Hojai District to lynch an accused. The incident took place on June 13.

3) On 3 April 2023, a Muslim mob vandalized Kotwali police station in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The pretext – they claimed that some Hindus had ‘misbehaved’ with the Imam of a local mosque and had stopped those offering Namaz. The crowd was shouting pro-Islamic and anti-Hindu slogans in front of the police station during their ‘protest’.

4) In Jharkhand, Hindu devotees and police came under attack after residents of Muslim tola pelted stones at a Saraswati Puja procession in Dokidih village of Narayanpur police station area, Jamtara district. The heavy stone pelting left 4 policemen, including Inspector Manoj Kumar, seriously injured and they had to be referred to Dhanbad. Police had to fire around 15 rounds in the air to quell the rioters. Yet, when the murti visarjan was later completed with police protection.

5) A complaint against the construction of an illegal mosque in Andhra Pradesh’s (AP) Kurnool district led to the Islamist mob violence on Saturday (January 7). The incident occurred during a BJP protest against the illegal mosque. Islamists reportedly gheraoed the police station, burnt police vehicles, and attacked BJP workers.

6) Last September, four officers of the Pirbahar Police station in Patna were admitted to the hospital after they were brutally beaten by people of the Islamist community for allegedly arresting criminal suspects. A violent mob had first attacked a police party at a market, and then went to the police station and began pelting stones at the officers. They further assaulted the officers who moved out of the police station to save their lives.

7) On 18 May 2022, a team of Mathura and Haryana police was attacked in Nangla Islam Nagar under the Shergarh police station area in ​​Mathura. The villagers attacked the police with stones, bricks and lathis when they went to arrest an OLX fraudster named Nauman from the village. The Mathura police confirmed that firing even happened from rooftops. Many policemen were injured in the attack.

8) Last May, Sirmaur Police in Himachal Pradesh arrested BJP Minority Morcha Paonta President Naseem Naaz and Armaan Malik (Mehboob) for using abusive language toward Bhagwan Shiva and demeaning Hindu religion on social media. Angered by this, Muslim fundamentalists surrounded the police station and attacked it with swords and sticks.

9) In April last year, stones were pelted from rooftops on a police team on its way to arrest 28-year-old Yunus aka Imam aka Sonu ‘Chikna’ who was involved in the attack on a Hanuman Jayanti procession in New Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.

10) In April 2022, an Islamist mob pelted stones at a police station, Hanuman temple and hospital in Karnataka’s Hubli. The mob was reportedly angered over an ‘objectionable social media post’. Although a case was registered and the person was arrested, the mob still gathered at the police station, they turned violent and started pelting stones at the police station and police vehicles.
