Bharat’s manufacturing sector logs strong growth in Jan as exports surge: Report

0

Bharat’s manufacturing sector recorded a strong growth in January this year led by a sharp rise in new export orders and a likely flurry of restocking activity around the world, according to the HSBC flash PMI report released on Friday.

Based on an analysis of 100 activity indicators, the report suggests that the growth momentum has improved in the quarter ending December with 65 per cent of the indicators growing at a positive clip in the December quarter compared to 55 per cent in the previous one.

However, the services PMI in January was a tad lower than last month, the statement said.

“The divergence between manufacturing and services could be driven by tariff fears. We find that new export orders rose sharply for manufacturers, in fact, more sharply than the rise in domestic orders or the rise in service orders. This, we think, can be attributed to rapid restocking around the world, before new likely tariffs kick in. And manufacturing output responded to these new orders by raising output rapidly,” the report states.

Trends in the cost pressures diverged as well. While the input prices eased to a ten-month low for manufacturers, prices rose for the service providers — the fastest since August 2023. Consequently, prices charged by the service providers rose. However, their margins continued to deteriorate as the rise in prices charged did not keep up with cost increases. Manufacturers’ margins, on the other hand, improved, according to the report.

It also points out that inflation is on its way down, and expected to fall further to 4.2 per cent in January which is likely to pave the way for an easing of monetary policy. HSBC expects two rate cuts of 25bp each over February and April, taking the repo rate to 6 per cent.

The flash PMI provides an advance indication of the final Manufacturing, Services and Composite PMI data for the ongoing month, and is released approximately one week prior to the release of the final PMI indices. The flash PMI is typically based on approximately 80 per cent-90 per cent of total PMI survey responses that are received each month, all of which are used in the final release.

A bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Donadi Ramesh observed this while dismissing a writ plea moved by one Mukhtiyar Ahmad seeking a direction from the state authorities to permit the installation of loudspeakers on a Masjid.

At the outset, the counsel for the state objected to the maintainability of the writ petition on the grounds that the petitioner is neither mutwalli nor the Masjid belongs to him……”

Keshav Prasad Maurya slams Akhilesh Yadav for politicising Yogi govt’s Cabinet taking sacred dip at Mahakumbh

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has hit out at Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav after the latter questioned Yogi government’s Cabinet meeting at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and also took a holy dip at the religious and spiritual event.

He said that Yadav cannot tolerate that 50 lakh to 1 crore people are taking a dip at Mahakumbh every day.

Speaking to the media, Deputy CM Maurya said, “Mahakumbh 2025 is moving towards success in a very grand, divine way. The Cabinet members of the alliance government sat at the Maha Kumbh area.”

He added that it was a golden opportunity that every Cabinet member of the Yogi government took a holy dip and took important decisions.

The Deputy CM also said that Akhilesh Yadav cannot see the good management and cleanliness of Mahakumbh as well as tolerate that 50 lakhs to 1 crore people are taking a dip there every day.

“If he feels that the cabinet members took a holy dip and conducted meeting there then he too can conduct his party meeting,” he added.

Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Yogi government on Wednesday for holding a cabinet meeting at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and said, “Kumbh or Prayagraj is not the place where politics or political decisions should be taken.”

“Kumbh or Prayagraj is not the place where politics or political decisions should be taken. Organising a Cabinet meeting at Kumbh is political. Many of us (Samajwadi party people) must have gone to take a holy dip but didn’t post a picture or tell you (media),” Yadav said.

All 54 Ministers of the Uttar Pradesh cabinet were invited to this meeting.

Following the meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath, along with the entire Cabinet, took a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam.

This isn’t the first time CM Yogi Adityanath has led his cabinet to the Sangam.

In 2019, during the Kumbh Mela, he took a ceremonial dip along with his Ministers, Akhada Parishad President Narendra Giri, and other saints.

Maha Kumbh is one of the largest and most significant religious congregations in the world.

The key ‘snan’ dates left are: January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

Uttar Pradesh Police deployed more than 10,000 personnel, including local police and paramilitary forces for the event’s security.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed a “water ambulance” stationed at Sangam to ensure the safety of devotees.

The Maha Kumbh began on January 13 and will continue until February 26.

Two significant events were held at the Hindu Heritage Centre Rotorua on Wednesday, 22 January 2025, showcasing the community’s commitment to sustainability and cultural heritage.

Inauguration of Community Garden and Sustainability Initiative

The first event celebrated the launch of a Community Garden and Sustainability Initiative, made possible through funding from Rotorua Lakes Council’s Community Matching Fund. The initiative was inaugurated by Her Excellency Ms. Neeta Bhushan, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand, and Her Worship Tania Tapsell, Mayor of Rotorua.

Six raised garden beds, all wheelchair-accessible, were unveiled as part of this project. These garden beds are designed to grow fresh vegetables and foster environmental awareness.

  • Elderly Community Beds: Inaugurated by the High Commissioner of India, two garden beds made with redwood sleepers cater to the elderly community.
  • Macrocarpa Beds: Mayor Tania Tapsell inaugurated two beds constructed with Macrocarpa, a durable and decorative timber.
  • Eucalyptus Beds: Dr Margriet Theron, President of Rotorua Multicultural Council, inaugurated two beds crafted from eucalyptus sleepers.

Plans are underway to develop a children’s garden with herbs. The Community Garden will also serve as an educational hub, promoting sustainable gardening practices while strengthening community bonds.

Dr Julia Anne, manager of the Hindu Heritage Centre, highlighted the centre’s unique contributions to the Rotorua community, including events like International Day of Yoga, World Meditation Day, and the Rotorua Ethnic Market. She noted that the garden will benefit regular users of the centre and the neighbours. It may inspire new volunteers passionate about community gardening.

During the event, Dr Julia Anne introduced the High Commissioner and the Mayor, who shared their thoughts on the initiative.

This community exemplifies the Hindu principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world is one family. I drove from Wellington to support this meaningful sustainability project,” said Ms. Neeta Bhushan, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand.

Mayor Tania Tapsell commended the project, stating, “We were delighted to award $12,000 from the Community Matching Fund for this initiative, which aligns with our principles of sustainability. Water harvesting from the community hall roof and plans for a children’s garden further demonstrate its positive environmental impact.

A diverse audience attended the inauguration, reflecting the centre’s commitment to inclusivity.

Commemorating the First Anniversary of Shri Ram Mandir’s Pran Pratishtha

The evening continued with a Community Devotional Gathering organised by the Hindu Organisations, Temples, and Associations (HOTA) Forum NZ. This event marked the first anniversary of the Pran Pratishtha (consecration) of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

The program, coordinated by Sakshi Vij Sekhon, a Tauranga-based licensed immigration advisor, featured a blend of spirituality and cultural expression.

This was followed by a yoga demonstration by Ms. Nilamani Wright, devotional songs (bhajans), and kirtans performed by Sakshi’s group, the Fiji Indian Community, and the Rotorua Satsang Boys.

High Commissioner Bhushan praised the performers, saying, “Thank you for inviting me to this special occasion. The performances were heartfelt, and the community’s unity is truly inspiring.”

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Komal Sahani.

These events highlight the Hindu Heritage Centre’s role as a hub for sustainability, cultural celebration, and community engagement. Together, the centre and its supporters are building a stronger, more connected Rotorua.
