Atrocities against minors in Kerala during Ramadan

A flurry of atrocities against minors is being reported from Kerala during the Ramadan period. A two-year-old girl named Fatima Nasreen was killed in Malappuram’s Kalikavu after being brutally tortured, according to the post-mortem report. She was allegedly beaten to death by her father, Muhammad Faiz.

The initial post-mortem report stated that the injuries to the child’s head and chest led to her death. She was hit on the head, her brain was jolted, and she had a blood clot. The post-mortem report also stated that the girl’s ribs were fractured.

The mother and her relatives alleged that the child’s father, Faiz, a native of Udarampoyil, had killed their daughter, Fatima. Faiz brought the child to the hospital, who was unconscious due to a brutal beating, claiming that food got trapped in her throat. By then, the girl child was dead.

But the information about the beating came out when the hospital staff found the marks of beating on the baby’s body and inquired with her mother and relatives. The child’s mother stated that Faiz threw his two-year-old daughter into the cupboard and the bed. The relatives also alleged that Faiz strangled the child.

After it became clear that Fatima was killed, the officials of the private hospital in Wandoor informed the police. Later, the child’s body was shifted to the Manjeri Medical College Mortuary.

Relatives said that Faiz harassed his wife, Shahanath, constantly. The accused demanded Shahanath withdraw a complaint against him and settle the issues. The Kalikavu police arrested Faiz. The police also said he would be questioned further based on the post-mortem report.
